Her dad was a super OP dude who had a secret deadly art (Hiten Style) and a unique weapon. He died because of an illness, leaving Irelia and her brother Zelos. Zelos became a sergeant in the military. Irelia stayed back to protect their home. She got involved in a battle, so she picked up her dad's blade, which was inspiring to the Ionian army. She was dying, but her determination to protect her home was the string that kept her long enough for Soraka to save her. When she came to, she got her dad's OP skills. Now she protects Ionia.

I feel like the "Beyond the veil of Power" Fan fic illustrates her personality really well. I would Imagine that she has a strong sense of Justice, and might have a personality that feels similar to Garen in that respect. I'd also imagine that she'd be a little naive regarding everyday events/ normal people life, since she's trained to be a warrior from a young age, had to lead a war from a super young age, and never really had a parental figure (or even an older sibling) while she was growing up.
I'd say she'd be a little headstrong in doing what she believes is best for her people A little clueless with matters of the mundane and she'd have a particular soft spot for those who need help.
I just wish they'd expand on her lore, but I guess every player wishes that for their main right now.
