What's so dark about her?
Her backstory is quite boring considering we know nearly nothing of her Parents, let alone the Voodoo lands.
We know she has a Pet bear she enslaved called Tibbers and that she is somehow affiliated with Noxus and somewhat friends with Amumu.
That's it.
Sounds fairly dark to me.
She's "the dark child" because she will leave you in a pile of ashes! =D

annie is actually quite sadistic. whe loves watching things burn, including living things. she is basically a child that is evil who does not yet know what evil even means because of her age. you know, like those kids who killed cats/dogs and other animals and then grew up to be serial killers. pretty bad combination. this conclusion comes from her VO lines mainly.
she is also speculated(i repeat, fan speculation here) sister to jinx, and jinx's sister is apprently crazier than jinx herself.
annie will get a lore rework in time. any champ that is connected to the old "league/fields of justice" is completely outdated and retconned. so her lore should no longer be taken even with a grain of salt.
At the very young age of TWO, she captured the soul of a Shadow Bear and put it into her teddy bear and now uses it as her familiar. Her parents and the entire rest of her colony practice dark magic. Her father is a warlock, her mother is a witch. This couple are the leaders of the colony.
