Can everyone stop talking about Varus being gay

Because if you dislike the new lore compared to the original that's honestly not even an issue that's even on the radar significantly.

Varus as a character had fundamental aspects of his personality as a champion change. He went from a single man who was doomed to die defending a corrupted temple and choosing to corrupt himself in a final vow to his honorable duty of defending it and keeping the evil contained within inside of him and choosing to take vengeance in his last breath. Now this easily could've been done by changing the corruption to a Darkin and preserving the character, but that's not what happened. New Varus is a monster, he seeks vengeance for his people but its entirely indiscriminate against the mortals and there's no semblance for peace. He's the dominating force and Val and Kai are two voices that sometimes change his decisions, but it went from Varus defending himself in a final honorable act to wanting vengeance for a war that's centuries old and slaying innocents to sate his bloodlust.

I get he had a wife and child when you look at the details of the old lore, but they weren't developed. Maybe they could've had the polish of the new comics and been good but really these are minor players in this champion. The Darkin human relationship that determines the personality of the champion is what is important, and Varus has changed on a fundamental basis from being vengeful defending his land, to just wanting to slaughter mortals using an old war as an excuse.

Like even if you really care about that wife and child for some reason, constantly bringing it up is creating this dumb strawman that's easily perpetuated that "OH YOU ONLY HATE IT BECAUSE ITS GAY" and I have a feeling Riot will probably be factoring that into our feedback.

No we can't. Old lore wasn't fully developed, but it was good and could've been expanded. I'd agree it was one of the best pieces; measuring how far a man would go when torn between his duty and his family.

Just think of it: Varus wasn't there to defend his family because he was bound to his sacred duty. But when he actually saw them, none of it mattered. He was so broken that he did the very thing he was supposed to be guarding against; discarding everything he has stood for, and eventually his own life when the force consumes him, all in exchange on enacting retribution. A line between being vengeful and just slaughtering Noxians could already be crossed as Varus raced against the clock to enact as much of his bloody vengeance as humanly possible; because that was all he had left.

But Riot needed a token gay character. And for some unknown reason, they decided someone built around their family was the ideal candidate - and so they threw away everything that made Varus himself. If it was literally any other character save from few outliers whose relationships are as important to their character (Xayah and Rakan come to mind) who was revealed as gay I wouldn't have complained. For example, Vi would still be a tomboyish violent cop even, no matter her sexuality. Ryze would've still been a grizzled mage seeking and guarding World Runes. Varus was literally THE WORST POSSIBLE CHOICE in "let's make this character gay out of the blue" roulette.

Well, technically the Darkin is named Varus now so Varus isn't really gay and Varus deconstructed two gay guys and reconstituted the three of them together into the current body who is named Varus, so I'm guessing that means like Aatrox, the Darkin named Varus has completely taken over.... so Varus isn't necessarily gay... I might just be splitting hairs tho...
