Why are people excited for the lore?
I love lore, I've gotten into many games (WoW) as if they were purely comics and books. Problem with Riot's "lore":
Lore means nothing in this game. It's simply a means to give a character a description until Riot, again, lacks the foresight to include a champion in their current, long-standing lore so they'll just retcon everything and give everyone a one-liner until they decide they want to write something decent to include their new character. Rinse and repeat.
Fear the next Shadow Isle champion, Riot will have no idea how to make proper lore for them to fit into current lore and instead retcon everything they just did and have a neanderthal explanation as to why they're doing it. Same way they have a neanderthal explanation for being too lazy to give us a proper Harrowing event "It just so happened around October every year, but now it can happen anytime! Isn't that cool? No accountability for us!"
See, real lore is when there's a long-standing story and theme behind something, and when something new is introduced writers with actual creative skills find a way to tie the character into the story and make it seem like they've always been in the foreground of that lore. Not "Well, shit, how does this character and/or event fit into the lore? SCRAP EVERYTHING. We're making new lore again!"
