New Splash Arts on PBE

A ton of new splash arts just hit the PBE and I wanted to discuss a few that caught my eye in a bad way. Most of them look fantastic and really capture the essence of the character. Others just...miss it. So without further ado...

  1. Wukong

My main issue with this splash art is that it's incredibly ugly. I know that Wukong is supposed to be a monkey, but it looks just...odd to say the least. The face looks terrible. It looks like you took a human face and put extra hair on it, which doesn't fit his monkey self. The current Wukong splash really fits with this character. His head is more rounded and monkey like. This looks nothing like a monkey in the face. The hair coming up in a spike makes me think I'm looking at Monkey King Draven or some craziness. This one just does not look like Wukong and I don't think it's an improvement in the slightest.

So this shows Veigar in his villainous self, which is good. He is evil! Stop laughing! But looking at this splash art, I wouldn't even know he was a Yordle. With his current splash art, you gain the depth of how small Veigar really is, as he's compared to the books he stands on. In this one, it's completely neglected. If I was looking at this splash art the first time, all I'd noticed was that he was a mage that craved power. I wouldn't know he was a yordle. I wouldn't understand any of his short quotes at all, which is a key part of his character. The splash art may look nice, but completely misses the mark on capturing a core aspect of who Veigar is.

This is the last one I have a problem with. Kayle is an angel, that we all know. But when I saw this, I immediately thought that Viscero Xin Zhao received a splash update. It looks exactly like him. The wings blend in so much with the background that it took me a bit before I even found them. And the bottom area, which I suppose is Divine Intervention being activated on herself, looks like Kayle is breaking out of an egg with yoke on her hand. I just think there's so much potential for a great Kayle splash and this misses the mark.

I don't know if this will get any discussion going. The rest look great to me. But those are three that just felt off and not right.

I disagree with your input on Kayle, I think it suits her very well since she's not a goody goody angel, she's one of those righteous "I'll kill you if you do something wrong" angels hence her power looking a tad more terrifying is a good thing in my book, also the fact that the shield is like liquid gold feels very in line with what her ult does, it makes you invulnerable because she's literally covering you in armor, liquid armor that is, and as we all know, sometimes models reach out of the shield, by taking the shape of said limbs you're being entirely covered.

What I dislike about it is her face =/ but that's part of kayle as a character I guess... I'd like to see her eyes or something because honestly, her portrait is just boba fett ._.

With Veigar I agree, he looks too serious and not much of a yordle and Wukong well... he's not that bad but I think his ears are the problem, they aren't simian enough and make him look too human-ish

I just don't like Wu's face and Kayles boobs plates.

I thought Riot was better than putting boob plates on Samus.

The Tristana one is the most interesting of all in my oppinion... because... look at the ears... VU incoming

PS: You can see the fur on the new splash art of Veigar? or its just the evil shadows of his face?

One of my main problems with Wukong's is that it's way way waaaaay too desaturated. It just looks really washed out with all that light, and as you said, his expression doesn't fit him in this new art.

I think you can still see that Veigar is a yordle or at least short,I mean he still has clearly a chibi-body(big feet and his main body is waaaay too short)
