The League should have been destroyed, not retconned

Now, before you say, I've never had a problem with the retcon like some do. But I've been thinking they missed an opportunity. Instead of just erasing it from canon, they could have gone for a big, lore shaking change-up. Like WoW did ages ago with Cataclysm. Like, Cho and Brand conspired together and just blew the place to smithereens or something to that effect. It would have been a fun new lore twist, and wouldn't leave scores of characters with outdated backgrounds.

Problem with that is each Champion would still recognize each other afterwords. You wouldnt be able to have some unique meetings that we have now like when MF met Lucian and Olaf.

It's been discussed, and the prevailing argument is that if the Institute existed, theres nothing realy stopping them from rebuilding and doing it all over again. It doesn't really open anything new up, it just makes a temporary lull.

there are ways to destroy organization for good, not just physically (that's a tad too shallow).

The easiest way woudl be to create a war that the institute couldn't control. This woudl indeed discredit it and will put in doubt if there is a point of it in existing at all (I'm guessing i paid by taxes from everyday people). Summoners woudl lose part of their status (like what happened to samurais) and at the same time you would give a few champion the oportunity for a shine and a change on their lore. You could have Aatrox intervening on another war, Garen, Darius, Sion, Xin Zhao would see more of the action, Poppy woudl join looking for her Hero, you also will have people opposing due to the damage to the land like Maokai and Skarner (not sure if his lore was changed so it doesn't do this anymore). You could even have added Jhin wreaking some havok thining the high heads of the Institute since it woudl be perfect targets for him.

A Rioter mentioned somewhere that the League is not gone from the lore or 'erased from canon,' they're simply waiting for an opportunity to remaster it or work it back in or something. I can't find the post, but I remember reading it around a week ago. I hope they will do something with it eventually, but right now I'd rather have Void lore, Yordle lore, Darkin lore, etc etc before that.

Most likely though, they Summoners won't exist as 'controllers of Summoner's Rift' or whatever they were before; a more reasonable approach would be to make them a powerful magical council that oversees or influences events on Runeterra.

Actually, I recently hit upon the notion of stealing a page from Overwatch and having the League of Legends (or at least an organization by that name but with less total influence than the original iteration) and Summoners (not quite as OP as the original versions) still exist in-universe, but not necessarily have all the playable Champs be members, just the ones whose existence would not be justifiable otherwise.

Kinda like how technically only a handful of playable characters in Overwatch are actually members of the titular organization; the rest are just independent of or even directly opposed to Overwatch itself.
