Shouldn't Ekko have some knowledge of/interaction with Janna?

preface: this discussion is under the assumption that at LEAST a portion of Janna's original lore is staying the same.

In Janna's lore it says that a large majority of her character motivation comes from correcting the insanity that zaun has become. This seems almost identical to Ekko and his own motivators. while i can see certain amounts of conflict between the two since Janna is considered an indirect ally of Piltover, i think thats more a title that was given to her rather than a self proclaimed status.

I mean really all of this is irrelevant if they decide to completely destroy Janna's old lore (which is a distinct possibility) but honestly i think her character could work just fine and fit into the world well if they leave in certain elements of her current story.

Should they know each other? Not really.

Janna is an adult who became an avatar of the air element long ago. Echo is just a child and a street rat (riff-raff, do you buy that?). I don't see an occasion for them knowing each other.

And that's not a bad thing! Making everyone know each other and have a history with everybody tends to just make a world seem small.

yeah i totally get the whole "small world vs large world" aspect. its been a hot topic of discussion for rioters lately. it just seems like they would know eachother in some capacity. Their stories just link up in a way that would make sense for them to have knowledge of one another. to me, having ekko have story interactions with something random like azir and master yi.

I don't know that it was ever confirmed how long ago janna became this "avatar of air" and whether that halted her aging process or not. the only facts we really do have are that her body itself is fairly young (id say 20's) and that her body was transformed by her magical ascension type thing. if we did assume she was around 25ish and ekko is 16ish I wouldnt find it outlandish to think that stories of Janna would still be relevant and circulating around Zaun. The way i see, i would think that Ekko would have knowledge of Janna, but most likely not the other way around.

Briefly: I'd like to speak in defense of the "small world" approach. I think that's part of the fun of League, to introduce characters from so many different genres of fantasy and science fiction, then crash them all together. One of my main critiques of the new lore is that there's altogether too much "Ah, Ionia! I have heard tell of such a wondrous place, but perhaps they are only stories!" blank-spacing.

On another note: I will award Riot major bonus points if they do not scrap Janna and rewrite her from scratch. Is it weird to have an elemental sorceress rising up from Zaun's slums intent on social reform? Yes. Welcome to League lore. It's weird.

To be fair, they have Pilties in the Howling Abyss and Butcher Bridge, references to Freljord in Butcher Bridge, Noxians visiting Shurima, Noxians invading Ionia, etc. The world isn't as divided as your worries would indicate.

If memory serves it was said that if Ekko does know Janna he'd be highly disapproving of her because she "abandoned" Zaun. She left behind her old life and started anew with the intention to right wrongs in the world at large, so despite being someone who could've helped Zaun grow and develop as a society she chose not to, and that doesn't sit right with Ekko, who does still believe in Zaun.

He doesn't because the riot lore team forgot that Janna was from Zuan.

Janna was the first champion I played a lot, so I'm pretty attached to her.

But, Janna being from Zaun always felt like a random "trivia" they just slapped on. If they can make it work in her favor, sure, but the important thing for me is for her origins to make sense for what Janna is. She should be from the place that makes the most sense for who she is as a character; having her shoe-horned into Zaun just because all change is the devil isn't a good way to go about it.

Janna was actually my main for my first year and a half of playing. So im right there with you. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing her lore mostly revamped. what if she was never really "human" and came into existence as a wind elemental. what if she really truly was born in Zaun and her abilities are the result of some freak techmaturgical experiment. what if she ends up being from some place new that has never really been discussed in leagues lore. The possibilities are really intriguing!
