I know that Riot previously mentioned that they were looking at ways to give more value to skin shards for skins that a player already owns (and this was probably around a year ago). I was wondering if this is still being worked on at all because it FeelsBadMan to work hard for enough fragments only to get a skin shard that you already have or a skin shard for a skin that you already own.

I don't personally work on this feature (loot), but I did poke around, and there isn't anything to share at the moment regarding updates. We'll keep you posted!
Happened to my brother recently. Snow Day Syndra x2. He doesn't play mages, let alone Syndra X|
I think it would also be nice if icons and skin permanents of owned champs didn't auto-unlock too. Sometimes if loot lags people can't figure out what happened and they end up on the boards or in the support ticket queue to ask what they received.
There's also the chance it's a skin someone didn't want; the essence would be nice to have.
