Star Guardian Skin Teaser: Star Guardian Ahri, Ezreal, Miss Fortune, Soraka, Syndra

This is just excessive and not fair to players who'd like a bit of diversity in the number of champions who get skins. Are you okay with alienating the Yorick players or Cassiopeia players or Jarvan IV players who'd like a new skin just because they make up such a small percentage of the playerbase?

With the release of Kayn, there are now 137 champions in League of Legends. You have 137 children, Riot. It's poor parenting to play favorites with your children just because a small handful are high achievers while a couple of them are a bit antisocial and struggle to make friends.

"I feel like we’re tackling some major pain points this year and feel confident committing to you that you will be receiving skins for Cassiopeia, Viktor, Yorick, Illaoi (and more) over the next 12 months. We know there are others you would add to that list; they are likely on our list as well." is quoted from this /dev post.

Kinda unfair to call them out right now when 3 champions who haven't had skins in a while are getting some this patch.

Yeah champions like the ones mentioned above need skins (Yorick would have been a really good battle boss), and yes those champions have been waiting a long time, but claiming that Riot's playing favorite with skins when 4/5 skins this patch are for less popular champions AND 3 are going to champions that haven't had a skin in around 2+ years is pretty dumb.

Yet again Ahri and Ezreal get another skin together. This is the shit that pisses me off. And if another person quotes that shitty PR article about Yorick, Illaoi etc I'm gonna blow a fuse.

Technically speaking, this is blatantly incorrect. They are doing nothing in particular to alienate those players. They are doing something to make other players happy- if you're alienated by that then it's your own issue. By this same logic they will alienate a much larger part of the playerbase by giving Yorick, Cass, Or J4 a skin.

That said, Yorick and Cass are challenging for skins because of their unique models. Yorick in particular has 4 models: himself, his ghouls, his wall, and his Ms. Ghoul. For any given skin he has 4x the work most champions will. Think about that for a moment. That's not even taking into account the various particles he has- such as his cape. This might surprise some- but there's probably a good reason some champions have less skins compared to others.

Honestly I'm willing to bet even though those are popular champs lots of people won't buy the skins. They already have a bunch of other skins, if you have a skin that's your favorite/preferred what reason do you have to splurge on a new one? Adding a bunch of skins to a champ that has skins will only attract collectors that want them all or someone that feels its superior to what they own.

Meanwhile if you add something good to an unpopular character, you're likely to make people discover that character when they hadn't considered them before and the loyalists who see a skin of higher quality than the launch skins will all buy it. As long as the character is playable you can sell as much on an unpopular character as a popular one.

It's just kinda disappointing that Ezreal, Ahri, and Miss Fortune literally just got skins last year. And for popular series too (pool party and arcade)! I was actually pleasantly surprised when new skins came out for Brand, Malzahar, and Kayle, all champs who were relatively worthy of a new skin. Yes I know that Yorick, Victor, Cass, and Illaoi are all confirmed for new skins. Yes I know that Riot needs to make extra profit for when they lose a substantial amount with the introduction of the new runes system. Yes this is the nature of the business world. But that doesn't mean that I can't be sad and disappointed when Riot goes back to the money-making-old-favorite champs for new skins. Skins are generally made for higher play rate champs, but making amazing skins for underplayed champs can also significantly increase their playrate. I quite like the metaphor that somebody else posted about the situation (which I take no credit for). Riot, you have 137 children. Giving 30 of them rewards all the time while neglecting the other 107 isn't fair, especially since all of your children equally deserve a reward. These new Star Guardian skins will probably be amazing, just like almost every other skin you guys release nowadays. However, there will still be a thin air of disappointment that hangs over these skins when they get released.
