This does not equal this

Instead of just two categories of Visual Upgrade and Texture Update there should be more

Ironstylus recently mentioned how the categorizing isn't really helpful anymore, so they'll probably move away from it. Different champions have different needs and merit different amounts of work, so they'll likely just make the decisions case-by-case.

Kassadin didn't really need a reimagining (even though I would have been excited for one), and they got a high amount of value from a low amount of work. That is good. Very few champions really need a Sion-level update to be brought to a decent quality standard.

Pretty much this. Also, we have a term (which doesn't really hit the nail on the head) which is Model & Texture Update (MTU). What's being listed by the OP mistakes model updates with just texture updates.. which are similar to texture rebalances..

..which is why we have to figure out better names for all of this.

Even more confusion by some of the people working on texture rebalance, actually went for full TU (classic Cho Gath for example), while others did not (some of the other Cho Gath skins).

When is Kassadin getting his new voiceover? His VO is Taric-tier right now.

Speaking of MTU team... we were promised a Quinn TU to be expedited nearly a year to the date ("very soon(tm)," Fafafarani).

I'm sure you must remember my name given I've been constantly on you & other Rioters for a couple of years regarding Quinn.

Any chance you guys can fulfill your promise & crank her TU out in legitimately short order(tm) now? It wasn't stated but my impression is that her TU would get a little 'extra love' given the history of talks regarding her visuals (not just a simple touch-up to match the updated Rift).

From our talks, I know you've mentioned that you might consider tackling her TU yourself as a hobby-like side project. I'd love that, I think you of any could do her great justice. I believe in you!

I'd love if whomever would be responsible for her gameplay could additionally start a "Let's Talk About Quinn & Valor" to begin collecting gameplay feedback/thoughts from her fan base.

Having felt neglected in the visuals department (one year != very soon, even if tm'd) feels negatively compounded by the fact that we (Quinn fans) also feel severely neglected in the bugs/gameplay department.

I really think it's time for both to be brought to justice if you can please help us.

I know there's a lot on the docket, I'm not asking for a complete visual transformation or game play overhaul... just some TLC & traction on both fronts.

Quinn is probably pretty far down in their backlog. She isn't *that *bad compared to many others. Even though IronStylus has expressed interest in working on her she *could *be one of the last updates out the door. As far as I'm aware they haven't made any real promises on delivery time or given an ETA. They *hoped *she'd be out soon, but it seems it didn't turn out like that. There are many champions to work on, and they can't work on them all at once. They have to prioritize somehow; some champions will have to be put aside for later.

They said they were getting to work on it over 11 months ago & hoped it would be very soon(tm). Even with hoping, if they legitimately began work on it 11 months ago, it would've been done a while ago still. They broke a promise & lied. Now they're dead-silent on the subject, it's immoral & severely hurtful.

And as I've said a number of times, the context for expediting Quinn is that she was released well below their personally set quality-standards of the time. They promised to work on her TU both to appropriately get her up to par on their end & also do to so for us who enjoy her but witness this subpar quality. It's not fair to Quinn fans so they promised to fix it. They said they were starting work on her 11 months ago & nothing. It's a flat out lie.

Unethical from a business standpoint. I'm sick of being grossly mistreated by them. I just want honesty & Quinn to see the Justice she deserves to repair our relationship (mine & Riot's).

That's pretty hyperbolic and a really trivial thing to get up in arms about. 11 months is nothing considering the volume of work they have to get through.

It's not hyperbolic, it's fact. That's just rude to call it "trivial" too, it's subjective. To me, it means a great deal. Calling that trivial is disrespectful.

11 months is plenty when you've been vying for this change for 2 years straight, having spent hours & hours posting about Quinn on the boards, then finally received a promise a year later that hasn't been fulfilled in nearly a year's time since.

Please tell me you're joking :(

Kassadin direly needs a redesign and new voiceover. This was lazy and half-assed. Worst update I've seen of any champion, I'm completely disappointed.

Helmight1 votes

It's not a full update of Kassadin. Kassadin is still slated for a larger rework, but that's not going to come around for a LONG time because of all the champions who really need it more than he does (Taric, Poppy, Urgot, etc.) Kassadin isn't too bad from a visual or gameplay perspective, so it makes no sense that Riot'd prioritize him.

HOWEVER, apparently a Rioter made a new Kassadin model on their spare time, so Riot went ahead and gave us this model update for him. They didn't have room in the pipeline for any significant rigging or VO changes, but I'd much rather have a low-scope update that makes him look far better than nothing at all.

To reiterate - this is NOT Kassadin's long-awaited VU. This is essentially a band-aid fix. He'll get an updated VO eventually, don't you worry about that.

Solideus1 votes

Actually, that might not be entirely true. They might go back and touch up the stuff they left out this time around, like his VO, but I doubt they'll redo the entire model again. It's not impossible, but improbable.

Helmight1 votes

Depends on how long it takes them to get around Kass again, but you're right - I don't think it'd be another full model update. Probably just a new VO and maybe a slight gameplay update. God knows he needs it after the Riftwalk nerfs.

Solideus1 votes

His design wasn't unusable. It's fine to stick with the old design if it works, I think.

GreenLore1 votes

The thing that bothers me about his design is how he is a good guy,yet he wears intimidating spikes on his armor. Speaking of armor,he has this giant helmet,a robe for his lower body and giant spikes of doom on for shoulder armor, yet he runs around shirtless, which pretty much clashes with the rest of his design(many people don't even notice this because of the perspective of the game).

I mean it is cool that we see some skin from him to show off how the void changd him,but I think there are better ways to do it than this.

Solideus1 votes

Maybe "he is a good guy" is too much of a reductionist view, then. Instead try and imagine what his visuals try to say about his character. I know the "in-world" storytelling of Kassadins visuals are pretty vague, but I think it's fair to say his looks say something about his personality.

GreenLore2 votes

Uhm that is exactly what they are doing since a long time. Their support site basically differentiates between 3 kinds of updates and always shows us who is the next champ to receive such an update: 1.There are champs who receive a new model/texture only(currently Kassadin,Maokai and Alistar before him) 2.The champs who receive a full VU and a kit rework(previously Tristana, the next one is ryze, since the site is only talking about visual changes,I guess the kit rework is optional) 3.Shows us which champ is going to get a full relaunch similar to Sion(currently its poppy)

Texture rebalances are not listed,as they usually come in bigger packs(and yes Eve and BC only count as Texture rebalances too)
