Vastaya Taxonomy
Tell me if I get anything wrong (Sharjo/Reds/Lore nerds).
There are 2 (or 3 depending on your terminology) broad sub-kinds of Vastaya
- Magic animal people (Otter people, Wukong, Rengar)
- Humanoid animal people (Rakan, Xayah, Ahri, Nami)
and the third that's only sometimes counted:
- Shapeshifters (Shai, maybe Nidalee, maybe Swain, maybe Udyr)
These are determined by how much ancestry from the Vastayashai'rei precursors one has. On a scale of Vastayashai'rei to human, the three are: Magic Animal people ------ humanoid animal people ------ Shapeshifters
The first two can also be divided by what animals/animal combinations they emulate, as in Ahri's lover's chart.
Shapeshifters can only transform into one type of animal per person, depend on who they're descended from. Humanoid animal people can also largely pick their form, though there are limits to their shapeshifting, and most don't bother.
Yordles have a similar relationship to ambient magic as Vastaya, but are otherwise totally, completely unrelated.
The plurality of Vastaya live in Ionia, given that's that's where the Vastayashai'rei were originally from, but they are found world wide, and some kinds would actually find Ionia somewhat inhospitable.
Although Xayah and Rakan's in-game quotes might be useful for gaining ideas, it should be kept in mind that, even if you find them heroic, they are dangerous extremists. (They're certainly dangerous, nearly every champion is and whether or not you feel they are or aren't totally nutty, their views are extreme). In many of the quotes, I'm skeptical that they are being literal, not mistaken, and not assuming unknowns and rationalizing. In the above vein, it may or may not be possible to steal Vastaya's powers.
