Who is Aatrox?

So me and my buddy where talking today and we got into a discussion about Aatrox. (mostly cause we had just fought one that had decimated our team.) It started off as champions who "shouldn't" exist due to them being all powerful ( AurelionSol Bard Aatrox ) to name a few.

However when it came to Aatrox we couldn't decide if it's the body that's Aatrox or the Sword. This is mostly because riot have yet to give us anymore information about the darkin (I don't count that strange being behind jax as "information".)

I think that the Darkin are actually sentient weapons, who look for and take over a host so that they may do what they thirst for. In Aatrox's case that'd be war. So I've come to the boards to see what you all think, do you think that the Darkin are sentient weapons, or that they are just immortal beings of immense power.

He's a jackass that mind contols people to commit atrocities so he can get his jollies. That and that there are 4 like him is all we know for certain.

Personally, I think he's just what he looks like. My pet theory is that Morgana and Kayle will be made Darkin because they all share the same basic shape. And they'll want some means for bringing those two to Runeterra since Riot seems to be completely re-writing all the lores that had the Summoners randomly kidnapping aliens and having them fight. Thankfully if you ask me. That was a stupid overused origin story.

An ancient race as stated in my fav champion's lore. Sentient weapons are not a "race",and his sword is confirmed to be alive. His title may be suspicious, but most titles refer to their champion as a metaphore.

Just because his title is "The Darkin Blade" doesnt mean that the darkins are weapons... The title of Talon is "the Blade's Shadow" but it doesnt mean that he is a shadow of a Blade.

Why even have a mythical story about League of Legends when a win is even more mythical. Good Job.

Late to the party but I couldn't resist. Here's a copy/paste of his lore:

Aatrox is a legendary warrior, one of only five that remain of an ancient race known as the Darkin. He wields his massive blade with grace and poise, slicing through legions in a style that is hypnotic to behold. With each foe felled, Aatrox's seemingly living blade drinks in their blood, empowering him and fueling his brutal, elegant campaign of slaughter.

The earliest tale of Aatrox is as old as recorded history. It tells of a war between two great factions remembered only as the Protectorate and the Magelords. Over time, the Magelords won a series of crushing victories, leaving them on the brink of obliterating their sworn enemy forever. On the day of their final confrontation, the Protectorate army found themselves outnumbered, exhausted, and poorly equipped. They braced for inevitable defeat.

Just when all hope seemed lost, Aatrox appeared among the ranks of the Protectorate. With but a few words, he urged the soldiers to fight to the last before throwing himself into battle. His presence inspired the desperate warriors. At first, they could only watch in awe as this unknown hero cleaved through their enemies, his body and blade moving in unison as if one being. Soon, the warriors found themselves imbued with a potent thirst for battle. They followed Aatrox into the fray, each fighting with the furious strength of ten until they had won a most unlikely victory.

Aatrox vanished after that battle, but the Protectorate army's newfound fury did not. Their surprising triumph led to many more until they were able to finally return home victorious. Their countrymen hailed them as heroes, but though they had saved their entire civilization from destruction, darkness lingered in the mind of each warrior. Something within them had changed. Over time, their memories of battle faded, only to be replaced with a grim revelation: their acts of heroism were, in fact, brutal atrocities committed by their own hands.

Tales like these appear among the myths of many cultures. If they are all to be believed, Aatrox's presence has changed the course of some of the most important wars in history. Though these stories remember him as a savior in dark times, Aatrox's true legacy may be a world filled with conflict and strife.

''Some fight for honor, some fight for glory. It matters only that you fight.'' -- Aatrox

From the text I highlighted I think it is very clear, Aatrox is not the blade but the one who wields it.

Also I don't see anywhere a mention of other Darkins being known so that also rules out Kalye/Morgana, although, if Rito wanted to make it so I would be on board with it (like I have a choice lol).

I still hope to see Riot release the other 4 though as I stated in one of my previous threads.
