The League of Legends makes no sense anymore...

So back in the day, The League used to be a place where the nations of Valoran fought out their differences in a sort of "united nations wrestling federation" kind of thing. But with retcon after retcon, the Institute of war doesnt really exist anymore. Moreover, the champions have gotten fantastical to the point of not making sense.

Let me get this straight...

Targon, that mountain that used to basically be some warring tribes and barbarians mostly ignored by Noxus and Demacia... THAT is the seat of an interstellar empire? Led by pantheon, Leona, and... Taric...?

These beings enslaved Aureion Sol, who could create stars. Which raises some interesting questions. If he created the stars... is he Sorakas father? If Targon's magic can unmake those stars... Cant Pantheon one shot Azir? Azir gets his power from Aureion Sol to begin with... For that matter, why is Aureion Sol involved with this fight at all? WHY ARE ANY OF THESE PEOPLE FIGHTING EACH OTHER ON THE RIFT?

I get that Riot is reworking the lore as we speak... But they are dealing with the pieces that frankly dont make a bit of differnce.

Oh so Illaoi is a priestes who likes mangos and lives in bilgwater and met mis- I dont care, because nothing in that statement explains why she is on summoners rift getting a penta by facerolling.

The backgrounds are important, but Riot is painting their house before theyve actually put up the walls.

Well first off there is no justification as to why they're fighting on the rift. Gameplay =/= lore. They inform each other in a way, but aren't direct parallels. It's been this way for around eighteen months or so now.

No, Mount Targon's a mountain where the interstellar empire of Targon interacts with Runeterra. A few of those space Targonians (a.k.a Aspects) interact with humans from time to time and inhabit their bodies, giving them otherworldly power.

He's got some connection to Soraka, though it's not clear to us as lore enthusiasts yet what that connection is. No Pantheon can't one shot Azir considering the magic that would destroy stars isn't exactly something you can stick in a mortal's hands without, y'know, destroying them and their planet in the process. Plus Pantheon as an Aspect seems comfortable just using the physical prowess he can bestow to a human body to fight. Azir and the other Ascended were transformed by the power of the sun, but it's not like Aurelion Sol transformed them directly. Aurelion Sol's mainly fighting for his freedom in the grand scheme of things, and when he's forced to he fights for Targon, but he's not fighting on the Rift; no one is, as I said before.

There's nothing I find more boring than a lore-whine. Well, most of them anyway. If you want to say "stop releasing champs with lore like A.Sol because it's illogical that Teemo could kill a star dragon" - fine. I get that. Frankly, this lore-written-by-8-year-olds thing is cringe worthy.

To ask them to shoehorn in why this UFC-meets-Game of Thrones battleground in the story line is dumb. It's not logical the way things happened before, and it's not going to be logical in the future. Just play the game. I'm all for lore pertaining to warring nations. But can we stop asking for everything to make sense?

I actually feel bad after reading this.

I feel bad because some of the stuff you read would have been great if not spectacular in your eyes if you knew of the retcon.

Everything got changed and the IOW does not exist. These champions do not all fight each other in story. Hell, I doubt Ekko ever once laid eyes on Zilean yet. The fact that Lucian and Miss Fortune actually teamed up was amazing because of the simple fact that the League doesn't exist.

What I mean is, their team up wasn't because "Hey, let me call up this guy I know from the rift to help." They never once met each other, and what they were doing individually happened to have coincided with each other. In fact, Lucian JUST NOW REALIZED Senna exists in Thresh's lantern. He thought she was just dead.

These characters now have the opportunity to experience or come across others they never realized were possible. I mean, if Miss Fortune already knew Hecarim existed in all of these previous League match ups, I am sure she wouldn't be as scared shitless when he first appeared.

You must have missed the memo that Summoner's Rift and the League of Legends doesn't actually exist in story anymore.
