About Ionia... (And Supports)

Anybody else think it's funny, or ironic, that Ionia literally only has two support champions? Karma and Rakan

Ionia is the faction with the most champions, and in the universe, the entirety of their culture is about harmony, balance, and peace, both metaphorically, and literally. They are a people that exude compassion and spirituality, seeking not to destroy, but understand. Yet, for some reason, they have the most assassin/fighters out of any region, and again, while having more champions than any other region, a grand total of 18 champions, only 2 are supports.

It just seems a little contradictory.

Weirdly enough, Ionia is also tied with Targon for having the most support champions out of any region, with Targon having Leona and Taric. Although Targon might soon beat Ionia for most support champions once Soraka gets a full lore update, since it's basically stated that she'll be in the Targon faction.

Something else I found out while looking all this up is that support champions, including mages and tanks that are considered supports, like Zyra, have the most unaffiliated champions out of any class. Zyra, Morgana, Nami, Ivern, Zilean, they're all in the "Runeterra" faction, which is just the official way of saying they don't belong anywhere specifically. Many factions don't even have support champions in their ranks, with the Void, Piltover, Noxus, and Shurima not having a single support.

Well, you are assuming that Soraka may become from Targon, but i dont think so. Also: Bard is not from Targon. And you forgot that Ivern and Sona have relation with Ionia as well.

dont forget Ivern idk though maybe because theres simply more carry champs in the game because supports can only really go one lane and Ionia has the most champions from one faction but Targon actually has Leona too

You assume that Malzahar and Cho cannot support!? They may not be "conventional" but I remember when people complained about Morgana being played as a support. "Wahh! She is a Mage! You are trolling! SHE ISN'T A SUPPORT!!!" Literally anyone with some form of heal, shield or CC built into their kit can be a support. We even have an assassin support now!
Chogath Malzahar

Heh. It's like fire emblem fates where the Hoshidians are essentially the victims to the Nohrian conquest, yet Hoshido units are aggressive and speedy as hell while Nohrians are always forced on the defensive in most fights.

I think it's simply just because a lot of the regular pop culture archetypes associated with asian culture is characterized as what would be considered aggressive in gameplay (high mobility, honor in 1v1 duels, etc.), specifically steming from Japanese bushido culture. A lot of pop culture like to focus on the ninjas and samurais of Japan. Since League of Legends is pretty much a culmination of archetypes and Ionia was originally just the asian place, it would make sense that they would use the same archetypes that defined most asian media which is the fantasy of the badass samurais and ninjas with immense honor.

Zilean is from Urtistan. He's the only one. Making that city 100% support.
