I'm really curious to hear what Riot's definition of a Summoner in post-retcon Runeterra is.
It's just that it's been a year and we've yet to hear anything concise, despite the promise that summoners still exist.

Yep, that comment pretty much got the feel of things right.
Perhaps I'm stupid, but since Riot still hasn't told us they are downgraded summoners to near non-existence explicitly, I'm still holding out some hope for them.
At this point, I realize that it's kinda stupid to influence lore as a community member anymore.
Despite the overwhelming negative community feedback for the Retcon announcement, it went ahead anyway.
To put salt in the wounds, Rioters ignored most of highest upvoted threads that made constructive arguments against retconning the lore.
Just search "Institute of War" in the search menu here. You'll find tons of highly upvoted threads about how Riot should have written the IoW out rather than simply retconning it. Pretty much all of them ignored by Riot.
Riot's seems to be trying to phase out summoners by not producing lore for them and hoping players will forget about them and get tired of posting about them.
In my eyes, I think that's what's really happening.
But I still have a shred of hope that summoners will still be part of Runeterra. As someone who played this game from season 1, It will feel awful to see what used to be such a fundamental part of the lore (lore which actually substantiated the gameplay) be erased.

Remind yourselves that you cannot win a match without reaching and destroying the Nexus. This new archetype can be the new variation of 'Mage AoE' (Mage vs Summoner). Their completely new playstyle may actually be the one major thing missing from this game!

I'll deal with that extremely unsatisfying answer if I hear it directly from a Rioter, but not before.
It feels pretty hopeless, but I'm still holding out some hope that Summoner's still have lore significance.

After the Retcon, Riot pretty much said that players "Summoners still exist".
They've never really elaborated on that.
It's been over a year, and I think it's past time they cemented what a summoner is again, as summoners are a fundamental part of this game, (well, they used to be, I assume/hope they still are?)

Even though after the first group summoners is pleased with the entertainment and thus has since left and do something else, another pack logs onto the "League of Legends". And so the champs are still unable to leave and are forced to keep fighting for summoners' pleasure.

I have little patience for trolls.
I'm asking Riot to elaborate on critical game information regarding their lore, which really, they should have disclosed without anyone asking.
Heck, I'm askiing what a Summoner is in League of Legends?!
I would hope that most people who played this game in season 1 and 2 would realize how absurd it is that I even have to ask that question!
I'm asking for them to give us some information on the basic premise of their game. Why do we have to wait so long for that?

No they didn't. I was simply connecting the gameplay with the idea of summoners which came into that conclusion.

Sorry for not understanding the humor of your post. That's the downside to text based communication I guess. Sometimes things don't quite get across in the right way.
