@Riot, Can We Talk About Lore Direction? What Makes A Champion Matter?

I feel like new lore is being released feels standardized in such a way that makes it feel much less special than it used to. We don't hear about the fun little things champions do in their downtime anymore, which is kind of a shame.

Many of the older champions of this game had their lore expanded beyond their character bio's (which used to be much more detailed) through alternative means of telling lore like the Journal of Justice. We would actually hear about champion's interacting with one another in random awesome scenarios.

I really miss that lore.

Most (but maybe not all) of the newer champions seem to have lore that doesn't really have much of an impact on Runeterra. Seriously, what kind of impact is Gnar going to have on Runeterra with his current lore? I still don't understand why he matters in the grand scheme of things!

Also, we almost never hear about champions after they are released (unless they're being retconned)...it kinda makes the world feel less like a world.

The retcon also pretty much destroyed some of the champion lore. Skarner, I feel for you....post retcon you come off as pretty damn boring.

@Riot, if you're trying to release lore that showcases Runeterra in a new and dynamic interesting way...then why has so much of the old lore been retconned to what feels like garbage?

Can we talk about what your champion lore goals are and what you are actually trying to do with Runeterra?

Nah come on,many older champs had no impact even in the old lore. I mean what kind of impact had brand? The dude went on a rampage and was imprisoned afterwards, never being able to do much ever again, unless he broke out of prison(in which case he wouldn't be able to participate in the league anymore) Same goes for Nocturne and Renekton.

Not to mention that the JoJ didn't really talk much about certain champs either, many champs who weren't that connected to the rest of the world never got any attention there.I mean that is basically one of the reasons why we get huge discussions about the personality of some champs simply because they never received any personality aside from their ingame talk.

Of course that does not excuse the current state of lore.Champs not getting any lore after their release is still a problem and no developing story is also one too. But I think the more important thing is getting everything in line first before they start developing stories, there isn't much point in developing a story if its base isn't really solid.
