HOLY SHARKS OF SHARKING SHARK RIOT WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME
Let me begin by saying that stylistically this is my absolute favorite type of music to listen to. Running strings that slowly build up, simple single note melody that sits right on top of everything underneath that just keeps BUILDING and BUILDING and getting larger until it explodes. One of my favorite chord progressions to use too. This is the kind of song that literally takes my breath away, having to sit down and close my eyes on the first listen and just let the colors and sensations flow over me like water. I don't know who wrote this but you're my new best friend.
A few notes
- 1:01 is an amazing moment, you take all the energy and just...I don't know how to describe it other than release, you release it into the sky like stardust.
- Thematically, it fits like a glove. I've always been a sucker for space themed stuff because it reminds me of how huge the universe is and how small and irrelevant I am as an individual. This idea is executed really quite well. The contrast between the running strings and the melody (guitar? harp? I don't know, sorry 0_0) is like distant pulses of light against a star-splattered backdrop. If your goal was to illustrate the journey of a legendary star-studded guardian faded mostly into mythos, you have definitely succeeded!
- It's the details that count! The little percussion thingie (bow on crotale?) at 1:10 blended perfectly in and out of the phrase, like shooting stars in the distance.
- You guys took a generic formula for "epic music" and made it incredibly unique. There are Mass Effect-Tron-Hans Zimmer-esque vibes to it, but it's most definitely it's own.
I don't know if it's possible, but I would absolutely love to study the score for this. Thank you for delivering once again, Riot!
