Overlord Forte4 votesOne of the ideal scenarios that comes to mind is Syndra having him assassinate someone to 'open the door' for her to do something else. The old fashioned Daimyo/Ninja intrigue, as it were. The 'what' of having Syndra do something is the mystery, though. Riot's limited perspective on her makes her a very isolated individual, and non-interactive with the world. She'd have to be after a major character/plot point, since her only antagonism is killing Ionian Elders.
If we were to expand her world role into that of a proper sovereign, though, then a whole world of politics opens up.

Without figures of authority, Ionia would be severely weak from a domestic and international standpoint. What better way to restore order than by replacing it with hers? Syndra is the Dark Sovereign, it would come as no surprise to me if she attempted to legitimize that title; Ionia's first empress.
Zed is also ambitious, but his priorities only extend to being the Master of Shadows and teaching his techniques. In exchange for putting Syndra in a seat of power, she absolves him of his previous transgressions and establishes the Order of Shadows as an official ninja order.
History has shown us that kings and queens, empresses and emperors, have resorted to less than pleasant means of solidifying their dominion, often through unscrupulous, though admittedly clever, schemes. Is it possible? Most definitely. Will it happen? A man can only dream such evil dreams...
I for one would gladly welcome our new Ionian overlords.

Though this does make me wonder, how would they react to Noxus? Noxus doesn't seem like they would allow such a powerful force to become such a threat, and doesn't seem like someone who would want allies of equal power ( just wants to spread the shadows, I don't think he would care if she didn't see him as equal in their alliance. Though I might be wrong, considering their ambitions).
Combined with their relations to Noxus already, I suppose that Syndra's newfound presence and Zed's now dominant shadow ninjas would not only push Noxus out, but go and expand across the horizon.

Zed is only concerned with the reach and influence of his shadow arts, Syndra with only her immediate rulership/personal magical power. The larger world is just a backdrop, one that all Ionians are collectively still coming to terms with. In this regard, I'd imagine them to secure a footing of power and leverage, but not necessarily 'strike beyond their shores'. Not without significant motivation to do so.
Noxus is pretty much collectively 'the invaders', and it'll be a psychological scar that's difficult to remove. Some might espouse retaliation, others to simply bolster defenses. The nuance here has room to grow in either direction, it'll truly depend on the individual author at that point. If we were to look at a World War scenario, though, they'd would almost assuredly tag team with Demacia against Noxus.

Syndra is ambitious, but she is also selfish - ironically, in a very Ionian way. She would pursue rulership as a means of protecting herself, by creating a world in which she belongs to. It would only interest her in so far as removing the people and ideas that keep her (and people like her) repressed and worse. In its own round about way, rebalancing the unbalanced 'neutrality' enforced by the current order of affairs.
Born and raised Ionian, it's just the establishment she despises. A lot of the cultural nuance would remain, save what she'd throw out to suit her needs. With her much more aggressive mindset, she'd be incredibly appealing to wartorn Ionia, and those who were subjugated by Noxian brutality. So, there's a popular foot for her to stand on, enough to overlook her more eccentric aspects. Once secure in her own position of power as the undisputed Sovereign, she'd most likely leave Ionia to its own affairs afterward. Minutia is pointless to someone dedicated to their own bodily mastery, after all.
She just needs a world she can be left alone in.
Zed is actually a perfect double edged sword in this regard. Through her, he's given a purpose in a bigger picture - ninja have no meaning without someone to direct them. Killing for the sake of killing is simply murder, but killing to change is the art of assassination. It's unclear how stringently Zed would obey this line of logic, for he might simply also look to kill the strongest for 'a challenge'. He can go either way with this flexibility, making him quite the wildcard in Ionia's political atmosphere.
Over all, this ties in very nicely with Syndra's social commentary. She's Ionian, but she was nearly undone by the establishment, and has just (to her) reason to supplant it. She isn't a natural ruler, though, not enough to become something like King Jarvan or Boram Darkwill. Ionia just needs to be in a place to suit her whims when she wants it. In return, Ionia itself has the fickle protection of one of the world's most powerful mages.

Eyes and ears which Zed's Order of the Shadow can provide. Zed's ninjas can also steal resources (food, clothing, servants, magic tomes for research, etc) for Syndra, if her alliance with Zed is that close.

The last riot Q&A on her indicated Syndra is alone in her fortress and virtually unknown to the world at large. I don't generally agree with this position: if she has even the loose, tangential aid of the Master of Shadows, she undoubtedly has her own servants proper. The eyes and ears of ninjas monitoring her political interests is perhaps their best use, as well as procuring odd items of interest. Farmers, merchants, and the like who are sympathetic (or buying into) her position of power are probably independent of that.

The recent "A Good Death" had the same. It had an end to the story. No cliff hangers.
It sucks they haven't directly updated champion lore beyond a paragraph. But they're doing so much awesome work everywhere else.
I could care less if each one got a larger bio. I'd rather have a short message of who they are. Followed by links to the larger works of lore that include them. Graves could explain why he hates TF. Then a link to follow that up to the Bilgewater event. All it needs is a setup. If that's the path they plan to take, I'm perfectly fine with that.

Syndra may not respect anyone who isn't a mage like her (e.g, Xerath, Annie, Veigar?), simply because everyone else is 'beneath her notice'. Respect itself may be a difficult notion for her to ever associate with, since it is not a gesture often returned to her. Good room for character development, certainly.
