I love that Riot is finally acknowledging Demacians are not the good guys

With the new champion Riot is finally acknowledging that Demacia is pretty much WWII Germany. They slaughter and oppress their own people in the name of “justice”, they blame everything on the mages, and their ultimate goal is to keep the ruling class in power.

Right? It's great they're finally acknowledging that no, the lines are not as cut and dry as they first seemed. Noxus isn't "the bad guys" and Demacia isn't "the good guys", same principle with Zaun and Piltover. Icathia is becoming less of a cruel kingdom destroyed by their own evil magic and more an oppressed people destroyed in desperation to escape a tyrannical empire. The Shadow Isles are a victim of circumstance and outside meddling rather than just being like that, and Ionia's cherished balance and harmony isn't all it's cracked up to be. Even the Freljord's three-way fight between Lissandra, Ashe, and Sejuani is more than just one perfect idealist facing two evil monsters.

No one side is black or white, and it's great, fantastic storytelling and world-building and Riot finally turning that awareness to Demacia is everything I could've hoped for. Demacia isn't good, it isn't perfect, it's oppressive and aristocratic and flawed, and the champions within it, even Lux, are biased.

Magic almost destroyed Runeterra in the rune wars. Don't you think people would be right to be wary of such things as not to repeat mistakes?

Demacia has not been painted by Riot as "the good guys" for a long time now.

Uhm not sure if you meant this post sarcastic or not, but this was pretty much already established back when Galio got his VGU.

Also while they do hunt down mages and have nobles with too much power, they are still one of the few countries that actually look out for the wellbeing of their people.

Um, what? Demacia hasn't been shown as "Good guys" for what...it's been some years. Hella years, in fact. There are no good guys in this world. Demacia are simply the ones that value justice and laws. That in no way shape nor form means "Good" and when's the last time that they were ever shown as "Good"? I don't even remember lol

Demacia didn't do a single thing wrong. Stop deluding yourself.

The irony. The reason why Demacia is so fertile and rich is because they've been stealing magic from all over. And because I'm sure all citizens and warriors carry the material whenever they travel , they are bringing it inside the kingdom whenever they return.

That and there's a group that knowingly uses magic for Demaica and the one of the future king's closet allies is a freakin Dragon , and two daughters from the royal families ( Lux and Sona ) are a couple of the most powerful mages in existence.

Honestly , Sylas doesn't have to kill or destroy anything, the Demacians will do it themselves.

Honestly I think they went too far.

When I look at the Templar from Dragon Age as having a more reasonable approach to magic than Demacia, I think we're starting to go overboard into the realm of just making Demacia completely unlikable.

And hell, Dragon Age has a much better reason for oppressing mages than Demacia has.
