I suspect its familiarity has something to do with the concept of artificial beings and their prevalence in fiction, such as Acis and Galatea and The Golem of Prague, wherein the subject (Orianna/Galatea/The Golem) is compared to a visually similar but wholly different construct (Fieram/Statues/The Creator).
