What are the shadow isles?
How did they come to be? What happened to the blessed isles? Is the shadow isles goal to corrupt like the void? Are the void and the shadow isles similar?

This is mostly covered in Maokai's bio, but I'll give you a quick summary.
The Blessed Isles were a chain of islands cultivated by the nature spirit Maokai. Within the Blessed Isles was a spring with great healing properties, the waters of which flowed through the soil of the islands. The islands teemed with life and attracted human settlers, some of which earned the trust of Maokai. He revealed to these trusted individuals the location of the fountain of life. Word of this spring spread, and one day a king brought the corpse of his dead queen to the Blessed Isles so that he could resurrect her within the fountain of life. But when she came back, she was reanimated as a rotting corpse and begged for death. In his attempt to reverse this, the king cursed the entire chain of islands, an event known as the Ruination. The black mist spread throughout the islands, and every living thing (save for a few) was cast into a state between life and death. This is how the Shadow Isles came to be.
The inhabitants are mostly mindless souls trapped in eternal torment, however a few particularly nasty specters and dark creatures are sentient. The only real goal of these specters would be the elimination of all life/ to spread the gift of undeath. The black mists surround its shores and occasionally drift across the sea in an event known as the harrowing, bringing the undead with it. The Shadow Isles are not related to the void.
- If I remember, it previously was a place that used to be like other locations in Runeterra. What happened was that black magic somehow corrupted the island. Examples like Karthus
are how people are affected by the said magic.
