Gatekeeper is an alternate universe though, so everything is possible in that. Just because a character is dead in one universe doesn't make them dead in the others too.
I mean Jarvan in the dark star universe turned into a gargantuan monstrosity that is forced to destroy entire planets and I doubt that this is forshadowing anything for his regular counterpart.
