Usually in mad science striving for either world domination (through becoming totally über-human) and/or immortality is pretty common, even more so for Zaun I guess. He was pals with Warwick after all and this whole mess with Soraka pretty much started because they needed her heart for some super-powerup-potion (no clue what effects but immortality was probably one of them).
Warwick failed and got so pissed he just drank the unfinished potion and that pretty much caused his transformation...
Not exactly an uptade that Singed is working on that stuff. It just has been barely explained yet...
