Viktor’s lore doesn’t fit.
I play lots of Viktor and he’s one of my favorite champions (tier with Vladimir). However, I have to say that I don’t think the lore fits him as he is portrayed in the game.
His whole playstyle screams… “I am Powerful. I have Death Rays. I will blow you up. My weapons may not be perfect yet but LOOK AT THE POTENTIAL.” He walks around and talks like a psychotic robot overlord and the way he carries himself (with a cape and a cane) suggests that he has a sense of royalty and fashion.
However, the lore emphasizes his mastery of civilian technology, it never mentions military tech. People read the lore and go… “Oh, he built this Blitzcrank, a civilian clean up AI, and then tried to upgrade these underwater mining tech plus some anti-radiation/health tech things.”
Meanwhile in game…
“Their Bodies Are Frail.” Fires Death Ray. “STEEL CAN FIX ALL YOUR FLAWS HEHEHE!” Launches a Chaos Storm. “TRUE POWER!” Q Flash Q… BOOM.
See the disconnect?
You might say, well he can use his genius to build weapons just as much as he can use it to build civilian tech. Yes that’s a reasonable inference but again, it seems odd that the lore never mentions this; not a single mention of his weapons. You know that in real life most engineers, even pioneers in their fields, are fairly specialized right? A specialist in missiles wouldn’t be of much use in a project to build a new mining safety gear.
The lore also goes with the, “He’s a misunderstood genius who wants to upgrade and improve humanity/turn them into robots to help them if they want/further an inevitable destiny where everyone is upgraded.” However, he doesn’t come across as this in the game itself. He’s just a walking Skynet Incarnation of Death (which is awesome but if you read the lore you’ll be like… wait?????).
It just bugs me a bit that the lore never mentions his combat capabilities either. If you read it, it sounds like he’s an inventor and can’t really fight. Yet in game he seems to move around with advanced calculation and has enough firepower to go toe to toe against sorcerers like Lux and Ahri.
Also, the lore suggests that he wants to do away with human fancy, emotion, and inefficiency. But in the game itself his weapons are actually quite inefficient. They are inventive and have tons of potential but they don't scream, "this is the work of a calculated genius focused on optimization and efficiency." The lasers from his arm target the ground TOWARDS the target and have a delayed explosion (a strange design concept when you can instead just aim the laser straight at the target and an instant explosion). Also, the cape (while it looks BOSS AS HELL) serves no function. It makes him seem like a stylish robot aristocrat/overlord (like a Dr. Doom) but it serves no actual function.
