Riot missed a cool opportunity with these Star Guardian Xayah and Rakan skins
So I know that some people hate the skins outright and I'm not here to make an "art" argument on them. Everyone can have their own opinion, just like any other skin legendary or otherwise. The opportunity that was missed that I'm referring to is the fact that these two champions are intrinsically linked by not only VO and lore (some other characters like K&M have this) but more importantly, GAMEPLAY. They were meant to be played together and many comparisons to Cho'Gall in Heroes of the Storm has been drawn.
Cho'Gall is a two headed ogre who one player controls movement and has tank-style abilities as Cho while the other player is the Gall head and casts low-cooldown and high damage abilities. One thing that I always appreciated about Cho'Gall is that because they are physically attached to the same body, whoever uses a skin overrides the other player's default skin choice, essentially meaning either Cho or Gall gets a free skin off the back of their friend who they are duoing as the champion with. If memory serves there is some system that decides which player gets the skin if both have a skin, but that doesn't matter in Xayah and Rakan's case.
Riot should've made it so that if a Xayah or Rakan player has a skin (I would say any skin but with these legendaries specifically) the person who selects the other partner should have the option to equip that skin as well in champion select. It shouldn't be forced like Cho'Gall, but it should definitely be an option sort of like skin boosts in ARAM. For those saying this would require new coding on Riot's part for no profit, I agree, but as someone who loves these champions I can almost guarantee that many people who main only Xayah or Rakan would buy the skin for the bird they don't play just to give other players the opportunity to try it out if an option to lend a skin you own to another player existed. Who knows, maybe the player who gets it free that one match would like it so much they buy it for themselves as well.
Everyone who plays one of these two champions and has skins knows the awkward feeling of "well I have Cosmic but this nub only has the default skin, so I'll use that one to match" and it would suck to not have them matching in this new legendary duo skin line.
