Will we ever have a shaman someday?

I'm just asking this since between 137 champions the closest we have to a shaman is Nidalee because she kinda reminds me of a druid but she's still far away from the shaman archetype. I personally would love to see a champion who can summon totems in order to do damage/heal or just manipulate nature in order to bring some cc or some stuff like that + I'm pretty sure he/she would be probably placed in the Voodoo Lands, Kumungu or even the Plague Jungles and that would bring more information about these places, which is awesome since we don't know much about them.

Udyr is probably the closest we have to a shaman actually. He not only communes with nature spirits in his lore, but also has some vastayan blood/ancestry (therefore giving him his animal-based powers). Would love to see Riot take him in a more shamanistic direction if he ever gets a full scale update, though they usually stay away from literal interpretations of a trope, so that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be getting totems or anything.

I completely forgot about Udyr. My bad

RookPusher1 votes

I was thinking of him but he's not the same as a combat warrior/medic.

He's more in line with the Druid from Diablo 2.

I was thinking like a mage could be added to cover druidic or shamanistic angles that udyr doesn't really cover

*cough* Bard *cough* Totem that heals sounds familiar.

Trueee, but I what I meant was one that's meant to do damage :P

People downvoting you don't seem to realize that in Volibear is literally a shaman in his bio.

Damn fools who ignore lore.

We were going to have a shaman champ, but Vayne killed her.

Seems like Soraka is a Shaman. At least her abilities do the kinds of things Shaman's abilities do for the most part. She heals, she does magic damage, she summons something(her silencing zone that can snare). I guess a new Shaman could take it a step further and summon some sort of combat animal/beast/minion instead of just a short-timed life field of energy.

I could argue old Alistar was perhaps a Shaman as well. Not sure if off-demand healing qualifies as the kind of healing a Shaman would have. He summons armor(is that a set of totems? not sure what those things are) that aids him temporarily with his ultimate, not fancy shmancy summoning, but it's better than nothing.

GreenLore2 votes

But soraka has nothing to do with channeling spirits, which is basically the whole point of shamanism.

SanKakU1 votes

She was a divine being, therefore a spirit herself before she became a champion. What makes you think she was banished from talking to other spirits like her former self? IMO, that's preposterous.

GreenLore1 votes

Being a spirit =/= channeling spirits(not to mention that there is nothing that says that a divine being must be a spirit)

WolfBV2 votes

If channeling spirits counts then I'm pretty sure Udyr can fit that role.

An idea I have for a shaman: (my first full champion creation so go easy xD)

#Suko: Keeper of the Totems HP Caster Passive: Spirits' Blessing: For every nearby totem gain 5(5% bonus Armor) armor, 5(5% bonus Magic resist) magic resist, and 5(10% bonus AP) Ability Power

After taking damage from any champion, gain 1/2/3/4/5 Ap, Armor, and Magic Resist for 6/7/8/9/10 seconds (15 second cooldown)

Q: Spirits' Veil: Cast a spell in a circle (think Diana Q in a circle, or a one direction Galio new Q without the big circle of damage in the middle), creating a Hollow Pillar that lasts for 3 seconds, all enemies that pass through oor are hit by the wall take damage scaling with Max HP and AP and have resistances cut by 5/10/15/20/25%.

W: Sprirts' Protection: Place a Guarding totem within a 500/625/750/875/1000 range. If any enemy spell passes through a totem, damage is halved. Each totem has 3 auto attack health. If a spell is cast through multiple totems damage is halved, then halved again, etc... If an enemy walks through a totem they are slowed by 30/35/40/45/50% for 1 second.

Every time a totem is hit by friendly or enemy ability, it will grant/change a small random buff to Suko. (+50% HP Regen,+50% Mana Regen, +150 HP, +150 Mana, +10 Move Speed, +10 AP, +10 Armor, +10 Magic Resist) (Does not stack with totems of same buff nearby)

E: Spirits' Edge (passive) gain 5/5/6/6/7 movement speed for each neaby totem (active point and click) throw a magic spike that does damage scaling with movement speed and AP and Max HP. Does double damage when thrown through a totem. Totems do not stack.

R: Spirits' Wrath: Spirits fly around Suko slowing enemies by 10% growing gradually at a rate of 5% per second (max 70%) for 2 seconds. For each 1% percent slowed, Suko's Max HP and passive's affects are increased by 2%. Ability lasts up to 15 seconds. Range of 600.

Suko's early game is supposed to be weak, he has slows and buffs to help him survive laning phase in order to get to teamfight phase. His identity is that the totems he carries around calls upon the divine spirits of his homeland, the Plague Jungles.

Obviously what is above is not completely balanced, and is not showing most cooldowns or mana costs. But i think it would be cool to have a tank who is also an AP caster. Make it so he can scale with Tank or AP (kinda like reksai with Damage and Tank. you can build her full damage and do WORK, but be squishy, or build as tank and be less damage more tank).

What are your thoughts? What would you change/buff/nerf?

She seems extremely interesting, however I believe this deserves it's own post. Also, since this is your first champ creation idea I would recommend not adding in numbers, or even thinking of those

Dataless2 votes

So..... you want a Warcraft character?

By definition a Shaman is, "a person regarded as having access to, and influence in, the world of good and evil spirits, especially among some peoples of northern Asia and North America. Typically such people enter a trance state during a ritual, and practice divination and healing."

Which is, I'm pretty sure, NOT what you're asking for.

Illaoi Slams people with a totem/idol. Can pull out and beat the crap out of spirits. Summons watery spectral squid tentacles.

Druids and shamans are very close to each other. Druids are also known for shapeshifting and can deal damage or heal.

Timethief491 votes

Not really. Shamans are mostly the ones talking to the spirits (at least in the most cultures). They were mostly in the native american side of the world. Druids were mostly in the celtic side of the antice. They were basicly priests. If you go for the wow logic, shamans are elemt guys druids are shapeshifters. Thats also completly different.

Ehh, I would want that. Problem is, when I think shaman, I think Kotal Kahn from MKX. In theory he would sound interesting and kinda hard to play/get-in/master. In actual gameplay he would probably play alot like Illaoi, set up your zone and have people come to it to get anal'd and do it all over again. IDK, now I wanna make a concept. thx

In my mind I was thinking of Shaman from Hearthstone with the W, and i molded the rest of his abilities around it

Troll shaman. Kill two birds with one stone. We need more troll champions and to flesh out their culture.

Well, being a shaman and being a druid are different things, shamans can also be witch doctors and such. I guess Ivern, Udyr, Taliyah and Volibear are as much shaman as we get now

Manam Jeff1 votes

I read Shadman [zombie-nunu-bummed] I need to get out more

BØLT1 votes

I saw one, or two designs for a shaman, both got cancelled but some of the ability icons were used in game for a while for other things

RogueWill1 votes

shamman is not the same as druid

The closest to a shamman woudl be actually Yorick as a necromancer (ish). Then the next would be Maokai and Ivern as a proper druid.

WolfBV1 votes

Isn't Udyr kinda a shaman?
