Overwatch because of 3D models.

Borderlands due to style and feel

Fifth Element for character designs. Loll

Ehh, I feel like only Kayn was truly using a Fifth Element character design, while Jinx merely makes an homage with the orange hair and eye color.

Actually, Jinx is Gaige from Borderlands https://orig00.deviantart.net/5890/f/2015/120/d/f/gaige_the_mechromancer__borderlands_2__by_lagunis-d8qg409.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0smeO__OSPg

i also saw some similarities to "Lexx" but again, that might be a dated reference

This might be my favorite sci-fi film ever made outside of Chronicles of Riddick. The genre is so geared towards series and sequels that when you see a great sci-fi movie that really feels giant, but the director tells a concise story within that space... dang... it's just the best.

super green! BZZZT!

The skins team Audio Mixer has a good taste in movies!

[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

I know I have a Riddick movie in my archive, so I searched for it. C-H-R... "Chronicles of Narnia" *oops* :/ Found "Riddick 2013" though. Is that the sequal?

Also, have you seen "Serenity" (2005) or the Firefly series?

RiotRiot TreblMuffin5 votes

I believe Chronicles came out in 2004! Riddick (2013) is the 3rd movie in the trilogy.

PaladinNO1 votes

Trilogy!?

Daymn, I gotta go grab myself some .torrents ASAP!

EDIT:

Pitch Black (2000) The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) Riddick (2013)

"Pitch Black" - that name does sound familiar to me, but I cannot find it in my archive (downside of having literally 1000 movies stored locally). That means it's either been put a BD-R (in which case, would be faster to re-DL it than physically search for it) or deleted for being a simple 700 MB / 1,36 GB rip.

RiotRiot TreblMuffin7 votes

Fair warning: Pitch Black is basically a sci-fi horror movie. Which actually makes the Riddick trilogy kinda cool, they completely jump genres within the same trilogy.

PaladinNO1 votes

Pitch Black is basically a sci-fi horror movie.

Loving it already, before even seeing it. <3

I watch movies like Alien, Predator, and more disturbing stuff like Event Horizon, Life 2017, The Autopsy of Jane Doe and I Spit On Your Grave on a regular basis, so horror doesn't faze me.

Actually, sci-fi/action/horror movies are my absolute favourites.

[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

That said, when I was home alone on a dark winter's night, many years ago, and being more than a little sleepy, watching Aliens for the 3rd time...and at the exact moment when the creatures cut the power in the movie, I got a blackout in the house, any heart rate monitor would likely have exploded.

HeeroTX1 votes

I was going to allude to the parallels between the first 3 Aliens movies and the 3 Riddick movies, but while pondering the connection between Alien3 (a prison movie) and "Riddick", I was more struck by the amusing factoid that he gets "caught"/imprisoned/shackled in ALL three movies. I do think Riddick is the worst of the 3, but it does have a hilariously awesome bit with a deadpan line from Dave Bautista.

PaladinNO1 votes

Without having seen all 3 Riddick movies yet (at least I think I haven't), RIddick acually being shackled in all 3 movies does raise a question mark regarding his skills.

Three down, eight left. Now, normally I'd just keep going. Six down... Nine down... You get where I'm going with this.

I get the kick-ass guerilla warfare preference (not my style, but I respect the efficiency). I do not get how lax he let himself get captured. Also, Dahl...bad-ass right up until the guy actually fights back and she folds like a season 8 turret.

it does have a hilariously awesome bit with a deadpan line from Dave Bautista.

Please don't say we are thinking the same thing right now, because it's sheer happenstance that I didn't include this in my post above.

Hey, Diaz, I got a dog here.

Is it the same dingo-dongo thing from last night?

Nah, I'm pretty sure we killed that one. ...Could be the same one.

The same.

HeeroTX1 votes

LOL, no I was thinking of the spot when they're about to unshackle Riddick because of the creatures around their ship and then he kills Santana (as he said he would) WHILE CHAINED UP. And after everyone stares for a few seconds he says:

"yeah... let's cut HIM loose" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCCbfJq4SsA

[sg-miss-fortune]

PaladinNO1 votes

And that's right where Dahl folds too. xD

Daymn, fear can be a powerful motivator sometimes.

be honest with us.. Vin Deisel is Pyke's voice actor right? that's why Pyke is bald, has glowing eyes, a big knife that he olds back handed, and is basically just a water version of Riddick? i mean, the voice is so obviously Deisels.. i'm just waiting for the confirmation XD

I'll give you the Jean Baptiste Emmaunel Zorg and Lilu connections, but I think the Sona with Plavalaguna is a tiny bit of a stretch. I see Sona more as Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan from Farscape, as she really comes across as the pristine priestess who's gotten herself wrapped up in the affairs of vagabonds, and while she shouldn't associate with them, she can't help but love them: https://d1nao0k9edgivc.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Virginia-hey-Zhaan-Sci-Fi-Weekender.jpg

If you REALLY want a nostalgia trip, who she most reminds me of is Botanica from Beast Machines, who also fits the trope as the scholar who gets roped into the gang of vagabonds and misfits: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/attachments/botanicarm-jpg.27136401/

Now we need a Pitch Black themed Rek'sai skin, Pyke could be used to portray Riddick.

https://orig00.deviantart.net/568b/f/2016/107/d/3/zbioraptor_from_pitch_black_by_dopepope-d9z8wyb.jpg

IainG101 votes

That Bioraptor is more a Kha/Cho skin to me, Rek'sai is whatever the things from Riddick (2013) are. Otherwise 100% agreement.

Drugoth1 votes

Good point! Rek'sai was just the first void creature that popped into my head for some reason lol.

Rabbi Shekelberg2 votes

Riot’s skin team never does anything original anymore. It’s all either “inspired” by movies / anime / cartoon or just plain skin spam of previous themes such as Mecha or Star guardian. Took about 2 years since release for Aurelion aol to get a skin. Guess what, it’s just another mecha skin. Took Shen like 4 years to get a new skin. Oh look it’s a boring pulsefire one.

Chembaron Yamada2 votes

Do you know how insanely hard it is to create something completely new nowadays?

What would be your suggestions? I bet I can call out examples with a similar thematic. [slayer-jinx-wink]

Just leaving this here in case it's a reference... @ 1:52 behind jinx we see a t-rex and i think a triceratops. Not the exact dinosaurs used, but still. "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal."
