The Sion update took a goofy and archetypal character and turned it into a thematic badass with an intriguing look and theme.

This Galio rework seems to have taken a thematic badass with an intriguing look and theme and turned it into a really goofy and archetypal sort of character.

On the reveal thread on Reddit Reav3 said that Galio's VO isn't cocky as much as it is joyful. That doesn't make much sense, considering Galio's epithet is literally 'The Sentinel's Sorrow'.

I'm sure Galio's new kit and lore and such will be fantastic, but this VU just seems very off.

EDIT: I am still less than happy with his shiny-ness and happy-go-lucky feel, but since I will be playing as Gatekeeper non-stop I couldn't care less.

As much as I will miss a pure gothic gargoyle I must tell you that they didn't turn him into a stereothipical character.

They made him a Demacian construct that is what he was meant to be for a long time. You might find more of his old self into the Gatekeeper skin (which is receiving a new VO) or maybe this just opens the spot for what Galio was in a new character.

Old Galio was "The Sentinel's Sorrow." New Galio clearly is not.

Old Galio was a construct created by a Demacian artificier and who lost his purpose when his master died. He regained his purpose, to protect and serve, when he saw and became inspired by old Poppy. Galio has really never been defined by "sorrow," so not sure why he's called "Sentinel's Sorrow." It was a mechanism to propel his story and get him to Demacia proper, but he was not inherently sorrowful. He has been a proud member of Demacian society, and has dutifully served the Jarvans. Once he actually got to Demacia, Galio was pretty upbeat and noble, remaining gloomy in appearance only. He has never fit the Demacian standards of appearances, which has been characterized by pristine whites, and gold and silver detailing. Just look at Demacian champion like Garen, Lux, and Fiora - he doesn't fit with their looks, and then with the shift in the lore, he doesn't at all fit with the architecture of the city-state. His new look focuses on his protective nature and sense of justice, attributes which his old version also share, and it amplifies them and pulls him in line with the current direction of Demacia in the lore.

Joyful huh?

Honestly I'm a bit interested in how that plays out. Yeah I'll miss Galio's regret aspect, but to be honest he never sounded regretful in game.

Agreed, I think this new Galio is too much of a departure from the current version visually. Feels disrespectful to his current form.
