The Rift Scuttler has the wrong number of legs, and the whale shark in WoW had big teeth. I try not to be that guy too often. :)

Yes, it was about sharks not having bones. And yes I did think about the fantasy world angle but there's nothing to indicate sharks are fundamentally different. The jaws on Pyke even appear to be from a tiger shark given the shape of the teeth.
However, I did some more research after waking up and it turns out shark jaws can be preserved when treated properly.
The other part of the joke is that Greg Street (Ghostcrawler) is a former marine biologist so even though he has no involvement in the creative process of League's development he'd be the guy to know the most about the sharks.
