Viktor is a (sort of) Russian scientist. Blitzcrank is a parody of the German word blitzkrieg which means lightning war.
Lightning certainly fits into blitzcrank’s kit, but shouldn’t his name be more Russian instead of German?

It kinda stands to reason. Since Blitzcrank was built to be an improvement over normal steam golems, his name most likely refers to one of the innovations Viktor made. Faster (blitz) internal mechanisms (crank). Blitzcrank later modified himself, maybe that's why he seems to be crankless today. But who knows what's really inside him? Maybe a plague rat he keeps in there as his best friend.
Anyway, I like mrmeddyman's theory as well. Will check around to see if I can learn more about this rogue company, Riot Games. Are they Zaunite, or Piltovan?
