This article is what makes me want to take a break from league

Inside The Culture Of Sexism At Riot Games

I saw this on twitter from a riot employee, August Browning, and I think riot really needs to change their work envioronment. Look, I’m no SJW or anything like that (I guess you could say I’m far from it), but my simple brain believes everyone should treat each other the way they would want to be treated. This doesn’t follow along with that.

I don’t know how much truth this article has, and I don’t always like what Kotaku posts, but since I saw this from a riot employee, I think it has some weight to it.

Riot, I love this game, I love the characters, and I love the lore, but you need a better work environment for the company. I know this happens in other companies, but that makes it worse. So I doubt this will make me stop playing league, but it certainly doesn’t make me want to put more money into it.

I don’t know what the point of this post was, I just saw an article and wanted to talk about how I felt about it. Have a nice day.

Edit: I think my post has gone to a little to far. Just sayin.

Edit 2: I think I'm gunna put this post behind me. I don't regret posting it, it was nice to talk about this with different mindsets, and I stand behind all claims I've made in the comments section. However, like I said before, I think it's getting a little out of hand. So to anyone that wants to post and respond on this, have fun.

Kotaku is questionable at times, but the fact that some Rioters are helping spread this article around makes me want to learn more.

Taking a look at the article and then looking at the responses and twitter posts while taking into account the source I would probably say the following.

There is/has been sexism at Riot Games. With the amount of response and all, it's not something that could probably be denied.

The problem I would have, is how the article is written in the mindset that it is rampant within. And with the responses that say it was not their experience, I would say that it is not rampant.

I believe the article is written with some truths, some half-truths, and some way out of proportions or outright lies.

From what I read, I would say the most plausible situation is that certain areas of the company, have pockets of sexism that absolutely needs investigation. But most of the company is not. I feel about half of the people interviewed, either misunderstood something as sexism when it wasn't, or absolutely lied about it. The other half are the ones that have legitimate claims and should be investigated.

I think the proper response for Riot Games at this point in time. Would be to have a neutral, outside company come in and investigate these claims.

Are we REALLY taking Kotaku articles seriously?

Did you not see their post defending the GW dev who got fired for insulting someone for giving criticism then tried to turn it into a sexism piece when it wasn't?

but my simple brain believes everyone should treat each other the way they would want to be treated.

That's basically admitting to being a SJW these days.

I'm a person who both questions the legitimacy of the #metoo movement and kotaku. With that said I think we have enough reason to believe this piece. This isn't surprising from the Tech world but it is appalling. Expecting many people getting fired including upper management for letting this happen. This makes me sick to my stomach.

What troubles me is that at the beginning of the article the person mentions wanting to hire specifically a female leader.

For.. what reason? Why does the position need to be filled by a female, specifically? Does the job posting call for females only? Does the person toss out male resumes immediately?

This affirmative action stuff does nobody any good. It does a lot of harm to hire someone just to fill a quota if you could have hired a more qualified person for the position.

A position should be filled by the most qualified person available. Man, woman, other, it doesn't matter. Hire someone that can get the job done. Their genitals don't matter.

Throughout her three years at Riot Games, the company behind League of Legends, Lacy made it her mission to hire a woman into a leadership role.

already stopped here.

are you fucking kidding? positions should be chosen by qualification and not by gender role. if there dont happen to be women at riot who apply for the position because they are interested enough and/or are qualified enough, then thats life.

I once wrote an email to a Kotaku author about an article they had written, pointing out several stylistic and grammatical errors. They never got back to me.

I don't think Kotaku is a very high-quality publication.
