Lore question

Ok, so considering we're all summoners, where do these summoners come from? Are we part of the same world that let's say Anivia lives in? Or are we sort of omniscient? What gives us the freedom and reason to control these "champions"? What exactly are we fighting for as summoners? Do we just battle for shits and giggles?

I feel like the whole "summoners" idea is such a weak concept that has no past/present/future detail and almost feels like a complete disconnection to the champion lore.

It's a...touchy subject.

The summoners were retconned, they no longer exist, even if some older champions still mention them in their VO(like Sona &Nocturne )

Though originally the summoners came from the different countries. Every country(or city state back then) used summoners, which caused havoc upon the world,so the summoners more or less left their homes to come together in the league of legends.

There was some backing in the early days of LoL, including every champion getting some lore for why they joined the League of Legends. Some champions were even spawned as a result of Summoners misusing their powers, Fiddlesticks, Nocturne, and Lee Sin are ones that come to mind.

but as its been stated the current status of summoners and the Institute of war (the League of Legends) is a touchy subject for Riot, I'm not sure they know exactly what they want to do lore wise with these.

Hopefully the lore team doesn't go full Morello and try to brush it under the rug like Dominion.
