Confusion on Shyvana's design?

Hello,

I've had this long standing confusion with what's going on with Shyvana Shyvana's design a bit. Way back in time, if we stretch to her original splash art, there's this odd inconsistency with her hip/thigh armor. Basically, we gather from her chest armor she's 'wearing' a piece of armor. Yet, if we go lower, the thigh plates start to ... meld into her skin? The armor acts as if they're huge scales, essentially.

Fast forward to her new splash art and we see the same theme continuing again. It's a lot more pronounced and defined here, too, so we can see it's basically apart of her body. Yet, at the same time, it's also wearable armor?

It's the only part of her that's super inconsistent in the message its sending. Her upper torso and shoulders are very clearly removable pieces of equipment, but her lower half's armor is seemingly fused straight to her. Its bugged me for a long time now, doubly so since her in-game model actually seems to treat as if it's being strapped down, so thus a full piece of removable armor.

Soo, what's the deal, then?

Maybe her body just makes detachable Armor? Kinda like shedding skin.... only armor... and you can put it back on.... idk.

Maybe the Armor pieces are made to match her scales

I thought I was the only one with this confusion T.T

Like, the scales that we see (if the dark spots are scale) on her skin are deep purple, I'd assume the scales would stay in this tone if they grow or expand. Her other skins and the color suggest she would not grow scale this large due to her mixed blood and it is armor.

The way the thigh plates and other pieces are structured and colored say that they are in fact, armor, not scale. Except for the whole melding into her thighs thing.

But then, why is there are armor on her horns? Biologically, it would make no sense as they need no protection. And practically, it makes no sense for the same reasons, it would just weigh down her head unnecessarily.

Regardless, she has really shitty armor for a tank.

I don't get where the red pieces on her thighs look melded. To me, it doesn't look that way at all.
