Why does she still have the key in her back, if it's no longer canonically part of her? It's such a strange thing to me, I realize it's a big part of her look, and a good way to make her look larger, but if that's why it's still there, why remove it from the lore? I can't imagine it's too large of a change, right?

The "Lore team" and the design team don't exactly have to communicate that all that much after the champion has been released.
Wrathof3001 votesNot the case, we have gotten new lore with every few champion and rework for the past year. Usually design and gameplay are irrelevant to the lore, however with the more recent regional lore updates the lore is out pacing design and gameplay, not that there is poor communication. When orianna is scheduled for a rework we will see all the necessary design changes, until then the design is preoccupied with, new champs and reworks like Warwick.

Wrathof3001 votesNo... I meant it in the sense that when she does get one. She isn't currently listed for one atm. But like the post pointed out, her lore and visuals no longer match. Riot is no longer doing visual updates only they will always be accompanied by a gameplay update. So until they finish all high priority reworks or ori's gameplay is in need of big changes, she won't be getting one.
Ark Sorcerer1 votesOkay. Phew. You scared me. Orianna has nice AP ratios and since Syndra's nerf (which wasn't too big but still) I was scared of Orianna and her ratios being lowered or some new ability screws up her complex play style. Thanks for the clarification.
Sharjo1 votesBecause Orianna actually has a few animations that involve that key, so just removing it would lead to a situation where she tries to do animations involving it and whoops! It's not there so she's interacting with mid air!
Imagine the animation where she's winding up the key but without the key actually being there. That's what would happen.
Basically they'd need to make some major design tweaks to Orianna in game to make this change.
Plus she did have the key during her history, so you could just say it's Orianna but how she looked before she switched out her heart for a hextech crystal.
Akenero1 votesYou'd just disable those animations. It's just such a strange choice. They could have said she made a new key she could wind up, as well, but decided only her father could and then removed the key.
Sharjo1 votesAll of her animations involve the key moving though, which could end up being problematic if part of her skeleton's working outside of her model because you cut a hole out of her back.

If the answer is yes, then it will happen.
If the answer is no, then you know why it will never happen.
