My thoughts on the jungle quotes on the beta.

Ok, so it looks pretty obvious that this is a new champion.

This is one of three options.

When Riot was developing Kindred, they went through a few character types and themes to fit her "bounty hunter" passive.

One of those was a "cyborg bountyhunter" named Deadeye. That became Jhin.

Another one of those was an unnamed mounted Yordle. This concept likely sparked the creation of Kled.

So, Riot has been going through old ideas of theirs that had potential, but were passed up, and are finding ways to implement them into the game.

When I saw this, what came to mind is an iceboxed Udyr rework from a while back, in which Udyr summoned some neutral monsters that he could play with.

It probably got iceboxed because while being one with nature fits Udyr thematically, it had problems gameplay-wise, likely because it changed his playstyle too much.

Part of the rework may have hit the mark, however. Maybe the visuals on the reworked Udyr were great. Maybe the mechanic of neutral summons had some potential.

So, one of two things is happening here:

  1. A new champion is being released, using the "Neutral Summoning" mechanic from the iceboxed Udyr rework.
  2. Udyr is getting the VU he deserves.
  3. Udyr is getting a VGU, without the Neutral Summoning mechanic.

This VO is Galio's Galio

It might be a champion teaser.

It's not. They wouldn't make a second kind hearted monstrous outcast with a penchant for the Shakespearean.

But Udyr's rework is not scheduled. The next reworks are Warwick and Galio.

I didn't mention Udyr. I was talking about Galio.

They only just started very early exploration on possible directions for Galio's theme, visuals, lore and gameplay, so I really doubt that they'd record the new VO before he was at least three months in development (which is also pretty damn early for that).

No, they said that they hit a milestone and are ready to announce their relaunch for Galio.

...we finally got a solid direction on the next project that Team B will roll onto after Yorick.

It might be just me, but this sounds like something you'd say when you just got a solid, general direction for the update.

SSmotzer1 votes

And they are confident enough to tease it already.

DwarvenGiant1 votes

Yes. That's why it's a general but solid direction. It's promising enough.

They've done this before, don't forget; Poppy, Tristana, Taric, Ryze and Yorick have all had some form of the "We've got a solid direction for them" post, months before their updates' actual release.

I think it's a legendary or ultimat maokai skin if you Listen to the noises in the Background they Sound like the Bark cracking from maokais vo

It sounds more like rocks rubbing togetherGalio

Timethief491 votes

Yeah but lorewise galio has nothing to do with the jungle. Maokai does and as a tree he probably saw the jungle Mobs grow up which he is partially talking about

Galio doesn't have much to do with the jungle, but he is the bulwark for all innocent things under his ever watching eyes.

Probably not, as it was not announced. They don't do 'surprise' Champ Updates anymore (like with Nasus or Garen's 2014 VU).

Another thing they don't is 'standalone VUs', unless it's for some lore event (like with Miss Fortune and Burning Tides) that is coming soon. For all we know, yordles & Bandle City are next in line in terms of big, Shurima/Targon-esque lore updates (or maybe even a story arc), and I doubt that Udyr will suddenly become very related to yordles or their main land.
