I think it's more about joining Piltover's po-po than saving lives.
Eh, he's a kid, he has his own view of the world. He hates Viktor, even though the later is a pretty decent guy and an exemplar of Zaun.
Nothing about Ekko makes sense.

Vi grew up in Piltover(and was at least 6 when she came to piltover),Ekko grew up in Zaun.The 2 were never part of the same gang.
It is known that VI has no memories of her origin,so I suppose Vi was born in Zaun,then lost her memory ~at the age of 6 and ended up in piltover.
Also after the mining incident Vi severed her ties to her gang and started to steal from criminals,so her former gang is probably now her enemy too.Not because she saved lifes,but because she left them and probably even stole from them.
And how would Ekko know this, however? Vi went on a vigilante spree before she became a cop. From Ekko's point of view, if he didn't know the full story it seemed like Vi split when things went sour, abandoned her gank, and became a rogue element before selling out to the police force to save her own hide.
For all we know, he could have been lied to, or the story was exaggerated by her former gang members to cast them in a better light and shove her under a bus (bias and all that).
ya ekkos a ass but he doesnt know vis story to him vi was a girl from zuan who went to piltover he knows of her enough to know her name so to him being young and arrogant ya vi is a sell out she went to the people who scorned alotta people in his home town the place he grew up the place he loves remember hes like 17 hates piltover and wants to make zuan better not to mention hes a perfectionist and is very driven by emotion due to him being admittedly a bit immature plus vi kinda is doing what ekko is trying to do but for piltover vis a cop she beats up criminals and trys to make piltover a better place instead of zuan
That, and as of right now, despite their situations, Ekko is not an enemy nor a rival of Vi. On the wiki, it says he's allied with both Jinx and Vi.
Not necessarily "buddy-buddy", but they may work something out together depending on the situation. But yeah. He's not too fond of what he thinks Vi has become. Not a hero, but a sellout.
Well maybe the problem is that she's saving lives in Piltover when she could be saving them in Zaun. (Since he probably thinks Zaun needs it way more).
