Regarding the priest in Syndra's story...
What would happen if he actually helped Syndra to control/strengthen her power? Would she turn out good?

Good and evil are relative... ;-) My hunch is that she would never be particularly popular with this power, in Ionia... and so, they're going to see it all as a bad thing.
But, as I said in another thread, imagine if she'd been born in Noxus. She'd be a hugely respected and powerful mage, probably on the front lines of the military.
The truly scary/evil/out of control Syndra would have been one born in Demacia. She'd be public enemy number one, there.
Feels like they are trying to imply she was already way off the dark end by the time she got there and it only grow worse which made the priest unable to really actively interact with her which in turn made things even worse.
Then the ...land itself? Pulls her down and imprisons her forcing her to face her nightmares endlessly.....yeah how was this supposed to help again?
It feels like they were kinda trying waaay too hard to just stack everything against her to make her this villain with a tragic backstory, feels really forced.
Syndra will be Syndra justiciar if she control her power ! Maybe Syndra is going to chose her own path. Staying a dark mage or evolve in something between light and darkness.
I don't think there's a lot that could be done with her. I mean, her power is derived from the land itself, and it draws into her at an alarming speed when she uses it. She sucks the life essence from the world by simply accessing her magic, so I think the reason the priest dampened her magic was to prevent further damage to the world.
I mean hell, when she had a fit of rage after killing him, the land itself was like "NAH BITCH, THIS HAS GOT TO STOP," and Ionia itself reached up, grabbed her, and put her in stasis mode.
