Kayn vs Cain?

Is it actually pronounced differently? Or was it spelled weirdly to better fit with Kayn's hilarious edgy OC theme?

Many of LoL's champs' name are derived from puns and references, and often they're just spelt differently to prevent it from being too obvious.

This is the same for Ekko (Echo), Master Yi (Mastery), Azir (Wsir/Osiris, where his gameplay elements are based on though his visual theme is referencing Ra and Horus), Miss Fortune (misfortune, and its polar opposite) etc.

There are also ones who simply go with their references as their name and without change, such as Udyr (Beast/Monster in Danish as a reference to general theme and his Frejord origin, also the nickname of a Rioter), Riven (the state of being torn, as a reference to her lore), Karma (duh) etc, though.

I pronounce them both as cane. Just a guess, but I think Riot may have spelled it the way they did to get the edgy-edgelord name, without the Biblical connotations.

Kayn reminds me Kaela Mensha Khaine, God of War and Murder in Warhammer 40k, rather than Cain of Abrahamic Religions.

That's what I've been doing. But with hair like Kayn's I'm not taking any chances. I figure it's about 50/50 that he's got a weirdly specific way of pronouncing his name.

I think that's official, given that Rhaast also pronounces it like that, no surprise there though.

But what if he's doing that to annoying him? Like calling Ra'Bhurt the Peerlessly Awesome plain ol' Robert instead.

I don't think Riot would confuse people for a such thing like this. Clarity is one of the things they care about a lot.

Not likely, because the quote I was thinking about comes after the death of Kayn.

If Kayn is taken over by Rhaast fully, ie Kayn is dead, and that when Rhaast kills Aatrox (or was it any enemy player? I forgot), Rhaast would say "Dead! Just like Kayn! (here pronounced identically as "Cain")".

So yeah.

It's also not likely that Riot would do that intentional-wrong-name-calling routine because that would confuse the player a lot, and Riot isn't generally into that sort of thing.

There are really no instances of convo between the 2 about their name pronunciation afaik anyway, based on what I've heard on the released dialogues. So no, I don't think that's really the case.
