Dragon Master Swain production got cancelled 2 times in the past

"Mentioning Dragon Master Swain, cancelling it, trying to make it again and having to cancel it a second time is the perfect example of why it is much worse to announce work in progress when we can't guarantee it will actually work out and ship."

This might be the best statement we can get which answers the recurring question among Swain mains and league community "What has happened to this skin concept over these years."

Just delve more deeper. I have no idea about the first cancellation but I have my guess about the second. Back in 2015 They had tried to make the skin before ChampUp team came up with the decision that Swain needs full VGUs rework or the skin team just found Swain's model and rigs very outdated to the point that they can't make the skin from it to meet the fantasy of the Dragon Master concept.

Anyway, From this Kindlejack's statement the more important question for now is is this skin concept got officially "Cancelled" or just "Iceboxed" I don't know if the Morrello's "We will do this skin - I'm sure of that" statement is something that can hold our hope now but before that his VGUs should come ASAP because no VGUs=No any new skin.

I think its iceboxed than completely cancelled. After all he said that the skin was cancelled twice,so the first "cancelled" in this case refers to the skin being iceboxed.

Overall I actually think that they originally planned to do Dragon sorceress Zyra together with Dragon master swain(after all skins are rarely released alone).

I think Dragon Sorceress Zyra is being released with Dragonslayer Xin Zhao.

Of course she is. What I meant to say is that when they tried to make Dragon master Swain,they likely tested the same skin thematic on other champs and that this is where the inspiration for Dragon sorceress zyra comes from.

why does a skin even take any effort on their part?

i received pirate ryze as a freebie and that skin only has him in a pirate costume...his Q isn't even exchanged with a cannonball

Pirate Ryze is an older skin, older LoL skins took a lot less effort. On top of that 3d modeling, rigging, testing, clearing up visual clarity issues, testing, fixing, etc. is all quite expensive and skins are Riot's main source of income.

That means a skin has to help pay for the programs used to make it, paying the people who made it, paying for the servers LoL is run on, as well as most of the writers, balance team, etc. etc. Riot has a very large employee base, large expensive servers, uses very expensive programs to do modeling and stuff (like seriously, go check prices for high end modeling software. That is the price for the program on one computer.) All that adds up to a lot of money and skins need to pay for that. If Riot starts to lower skin quality, in fact if they don't keep raising it, people will stop paying. When you run into technical issues with old rigs as well as very complicated models that take a lot of assets (Swain Yorick etc.) you can run into a lot more technical issues, have to put a lot more in, and with even less chance of getting something good out.

This is why skins tend to be canceled early, especially if the champion is on the VGU list because you will have to redo all their skins anyways.

Because first off, they have to think of what abilities will look like (if they're doing a skin that change particles) Then how to pull it off, and do some rigging if anything at all has a new model Then they have to make sure it can pull off the look They also have to have a splash art for it Then there's also making sure there's no visual glitches They also normally release series skins in bulk so then it has to wait for more champions design process to be done There's also a lot of human and communication error involved

Something of quality takes time, and they have to make sure they can make money off of these, otherwise it was wasted time, and riot needs money to pay the people who do this, and also for their programs, and every other employee, and to run servers, and internet, the list goes on and on. Unappreciative people like you don't realise how hard it is to do any of this, and then instead of looking at the masterpieces they've created, you look at very old skin (like at the time where they were just recolors) and then complain about how low quality it is (even though it was a free skin that you got, and an inexpensive one so they couldn't put much into it without losing money).
