Swain's VGU expectations

OK, Now it's safe to say that Swain is the next VGU after Eve. So I think it's the time for us to voice out our expectations in every aspect of him gameplay, lore, theme etc. Mine are

Gameplay Let's face it. Swain's current kits are such boring and very simple. It gives a tons of benefits when you get ahead of enemies and dumb you down below hell when you fall behind. Like Reav3 said in the Champ Roadmap article. I expect that the new kits will be more challenging and more rewarding in late game.

The only things I want the team to keep are his transformation and role as an ap midlaner. Except of these they can do whatever they want in rebuilding hit kits to match his theme as a leader of Noxus.

Character/Theme

  1. Keep his references to Poe's work. (More of it would be welcomed)
  2. Limping
  3. Raven theme (From the teaser pic in the article I think there should be no worry for this)
  4. "A Calculated Risk" "Nevermove" and "I'm five steps ahead of you"

Lore This may be the main dish for many Swain mains. I think he will undoubtedly lead Noxus relaunch when the time comes. So when we talk about his upcoming lore update. We are talking about Noxus lore relaunch as well. As the lore lord, Swain has so much potential in term of lore that we can expect. Mines are

  1. His past and his relationship with Beatrice.
  2. More politics in high command. Especially his power play with The Black Rose and its matron LB.
  3. It would be good to know how his subordinates like Kat Darius Draven think about him.
  4. More details of the Vastayan blood Rakan refers to.
  5. How he thought of the other nations. Especially Ionia and Demacia.
  6. Will Kalamanda incident still be fully canon?

I can add more of it but now these are from my quick thought. I'm very excited and happy to see him as the next big project of ChampUp. He deserved this attention long time ago.

The limp is core to swain. It helps tie in his whole way of out thinking his opponents when someone looks at him and thinks "Oh it's a crippled old man he won't do me any harm and now I'm dead" scenario

I love it when the community here get too excited for a rework and I admire when they attempt to theorize whats best for the rework. But the community never have suggestions for something outside the box, no opinions to truly evolve the character. What's the point in theorizing if you're only going to suggest what would essentially be a remake, when Riot has been developing ever more popular reboots.

See that is why they're the creators and we but the consumers. I know that I don't know what I want until someone can give it to me, if you catch my drift?

Now a criticism could be that adding more things to a character, never mind how "outside the box" it may be, could cause convolution. Well reboots don't always add on top of existing features to make them feel improved. They have the right to remove somethings that might be considered essential eg. Swains limp. Is it really that necessary to keep? would it be what holds the character up once he's re-introduced? Judging from the upvotes for people who say it is, my opinion might go down like a lead balloon. So here's another example, lots thought Urgot's abnormal; obese and decaying body was important to keep for his rework. Well disappointment for those that strongly believed that, but in hindsight it's removal hasn't taken anything away from Urgot. Although his lore has yet to be released, his character seems a million miles more improved and efficiently different from his previous incarnation.

Things to keep: Transform into bossbird, limp, "another opponent, another disapointment", beatrice picking him up in his laught, raventheme DOT damage no glasscannon not mobile not to mechanically challenging

Things i want in lore; relationship with beatrice

They'll keep his transform probably, but he probably won't be a drain tank

All I want gameplay wise is for him to keep his DoT, tankiness(preferably not as draintanking), and Raven form.

In other words, if they turn him into a squishy burst mage, I'm going on a homicidal rampage.

Story wise, the only thing I can think of that would make it a failure in my eyes is if he was purely evil. Like, on par with Mordekaiser. There's nothing wrong with Mordekaiser's position, I just think him and the void should be the big bads, not the ruler of Noxus. Swain should have people that see him as a hero, a 'good guy'. There should be those that look up to him, and he should be willing to work with his enemies if it was a necessity.

Other than that, I'm keeping my expectations low. I'm going to try my best to not set any standards that Riot has no way of achieving, because I don't want to ruin my favorite champion due to my own expectations. I did that with Shen, and now I can't stand playing him. :p

im super excited but im trying to leave out all expectations other than "good" so i dont get my hopes up on one particular thing. honestly i dont think his kit right now is boring to use necessarily but it certainly isnt exciting or interactive. either way, i have high hopes

I think its important that they balance him around top and not mid seeing as most of his player base is in the top lane.

Id rather they chance his lore then severely change his playstyle

I think the whole Kalamanda incident has already been removed from the current Cannon. points being; J4's new lore (now including Shyvana), Skarner's new lore, the removal of Dominian (which was the sight of the Kalamanda incident or at least was an area close to that).
