RIot Didn't Retcon the Lore, They Just Deleted It.

Riot has not addressed the current situation for the lore of League of Legends.

They made a dev blog which vaguely gave us an idea of the direction that they are trying to go in, without telling us anything.

They told us the stuff that doesn't exist anymore, like summoners and the Institute of War, but Riot didn't add anything to the lore to replace it, leaving Runeterra disconnected and undefined. Riot didn't retcon the lore, they just deleted it.

To even call it a lore retcon is a bit of an understatement, since it suggests that the lore was changed and at the very least replaced with something else... and in many cases, it wasn't. Poor Jax.

And still, after months of waiting, they have still failed to follow up the new lore in the website due to "tech issues".

LoL's lore, in my opinion, has deteriorated due to RIot's current lore direction!

(it was my understanding that they wanted to improve lore, but I could be mistaken. They may have just wanted to use less resources on it).

This may be a personal thing, but League of Legends seems to have lost its charm to me, especially since the League of Legends stopped existing within the game League of Legends.

That's just dumb.

I used to play this game all the time with my friends from high school, it was how we kept in touch. It really meant a lot to me.

But now, post retcon, the roleplaying aspect of this game has pretty much been destroyed.

I'd like to see it return to what it used to be.

It felt better for me as a player.

It's just one of those soonTM things. Riot is a company and does still need to direct attention to what will make them profitable (esports), as well as improving the actual in game experience with champion updates and such, but I feel like they could direct more focus into the lore. It's been a long while now and I've been waiting to see some of the cool revamps they must have planned but unfortunately we still wait.

One I'm excited to see is for a favorite champ of mine, Nautilus, who just strikes me as brilliant character wise. His whole ordeal was he worked for the IoW though so since that doesn't exist anymore he needs something else. 'The Drowned Anchor' hint on the 'First Light after the Harrowing' page got me kinda excited since I thought his character was going to be further developed but nothing yet.

TL;DR: It's about patience. I want the lore to be brought back and properly done too but Riot can't drop everything to fix the lore.

I always kind of liked LoL for the reason that there WAS a reason that everyone was here (including the player getting a technical 'role'). Oh well I guess, it doesn't change the actual game, just makes it a bit more run-of-the-mill.

Everytime I see this complaint and the correlation to the retcon as the "DEATH OF LORE" (all caps intended) I just kind of giggle to myself. The "direction" changed years ago when Riot Babaganoosh left and his ideas/plans for the story with him. Seriously, go look at how things line up and you'll see. If you dug the silly, pop-culture referencing, somewhat illogical aspects of the game from things like the JoJ and early parts of the lore that helped define the world than that boat sailed long ago. By 2012 things immediately started switching to less IoW/Summoner focused and more Faction/character focused stories. What we're seeing today is not some sudden upheaval; it is a continuing trend in direction that started years ago. The only reason people are more upset about it now is that Riot made a big deal about it with the blog post and so all the people that hadn't really been paying attention to the game's story suddenly started paying attention.

Also, really? The roleplaying aspect has been destroyed? Come on. Whatever aspects Riot "removed"...just unremove them. RP whatever you want. The constraints to your imagination are not what is cannon to the game's universe. That's silly.

So much for the promises of "better communication" from the lore team. It's been like... 3 months since anyone from narrative has posted.

If it isnt related to making money or Esports then Riot doesnt care. We've been asking for lore for seasons now and all we get is limited time events that have no actual lasting impact.

Hell, you are more likely to get actual Lee Sin nerfs than Lore from Riot.

I just don't like how they homogenized Xerath.

His Judgement had a great story to it.

Now he's just "Power hungry mage #8"

they don't have any tech issues, they just don't have lore, otherwise they would have shared it on the boards like with Azir, Xerath and Kalista
