I'm sad that Cho'Gath's selection quote has been retconned
"Death is not the end for you, I have seen to it. For eternity, YOU. ARE. MINE."
One of the unifying themes we found with the Void was that it didn't erase someone, it bent them to its purpose. Malz got spooky voices in his head and allowed himself to be bent to that Will. Kass was assaulted by it, his mind filled with alien urges, but he was able to overcome and his will remained his own. He emerged as something more than human.
That's not how it works anymore.
Kass had no alien urges to resist anymore, at least none that the lore tell us about. Now he's just got Void cancer slowly killing him. He isn't being bent, he's being erased, just like poor Axamuk. And I feel like that's a huge shame. That was the one thing that made the Void fundamentally different from the other existential threats in the setting. Everything else annihilates one's self. Being erased by Darkin, by Pantheon, via the Black Mist. But the Void didn't work that way. It didn't remove who you were, it altered one's desires to make them serve the Will of the Void.
It would have made for a really profound contrast between Naga (reincarnation is another flavor of self being dissolved, after all) and the Void. But nah, let's retcon important story elements instead. That's the cool thing these days, right?
