If he is too strong then it would be hard to explain his tragedy where he couldn't protect his creator. Also hope they keep the theme of him going into a depression and pretty much quit life, until he was reinvigorated by the little yordle that could.

Sharjo1 votesI don't share the opinion simply because there are ways of showing that a great colossal being can be overpowered, and the stronger it is the more it might affect him that he couldn't save Durand despite his incredible physical and magical might.

That won't change, I can almost guarantee that. The existence of his Commando skin, which is exclusive to Demacians, pretty much ensures he'll stay there. Furthermore, Galio fits very, very well with Demacia. The city is grandiose and geared towards reverence and zealotry, which kind of would lead us to think there must be quite a few embellished structures, the least of which could be places of worship. A sentient gargoyle wouldn't look out of place in Demacia, if you can believe that there lies room in the lore and development to expand on the zealotry of Demacia and give some rooting for a religious establishment.

So Galio apparently has a connection to Ryze. Their universe pages attest to this. That implies of course that Galio's got a connection to the World Runes, or perhaps just runic magic.
What if Galio was actually made during the Rune Wars? He was created as a guardian of some nation that fell during that time period, and he entered a deep depression because of his failing, one that he wasn't awoken from until the Kingdom of Demacia has been born on top of the ruins of his old home. Nowadays he seeks not only to keep the memory of his old home alive vicariously but also to try and do what he failed to do ages ago; protect good people from destruction.
It's perhaps a long shot theory, but what do you think?
Neamean1 votesWhen I said I was afraid he was too powerful I though about World Rune. With its capability if Galio was made of world rune he be too powerful maybe on Aurelion Sol tier powerful, that what I'm afraid of. Now I'm not saying he shouldn't be powerful just hopefully not at that level.

If it was change to something I wouldn't mind at all but I would still be wary of his power level. But there could be many way too explain how despite he being a rune or world rune yet is not too strong. Being that he is sentient could be a reason why he don't have that power level. His depression could be a reason too, if Demacia was built on his old home like you suggested I would expect it to be a desolated place(rune war destroys) yet they settle there, Why because in his slumber his energy flow into the land and refurbish it.
Sharjo1 votesOh no I think Galio's great for Demacia as a relic of an old era; a representation of older Demacian traditions that perhaps were left to the wayside for whatever reason. He's an example of what Demacia perhaps did with magic in a certain capacity that they don't do anymore, and he also serves as great dichotomy to Sion as the construct with a heart and soul compared to the man who's merely a weapon. It's also a cool bit of internal dichotomy for Demacia, as Galio defends the land with as much effort as any soldier would, but is not only a being of magic but also perhaps not so bound to their dogmatic traditions; he does what they do as well as they can do it while also being a bit more lenient comparatively to the modern national ideology.
Poppy's got a quest to go on while Galio's got a land to defend. I've always liked the idea that the two have been friends for centuries and occasionally bump in to each other, perhaps days, weeks, months or years having passed, but being immortal, ageless beings the moment they see each other it's as if they were never apart.
I could go on about this but basically I think they can beef up Galio and still make it impactful for him to have failed protecting Durand, while also keeping his ties to Demacia as a relic of their older ways that still fights for their beliefs. Just thoughts of mine.
