Riot said it themselves, Rek'Sai's subtitle could be cooler

Rek'Sai: Scourge of the Desert

Now, I think we all know that Rek'Sai's sub-title could have been MUCH better. The Void Burrower just doesn't really suit her. And then Riot releases this page on the website.

Rek'Sai: Scourge of the Desert

Riot, why couldn't you have used that as her sub-title!? That's so awesome and fits her perfectly! Upvote and bump for justice!

"subtitle"

That quibble aside, I agree. "The Void Burrower" sounds pretty dull. That might work if this were a literal subtitle, or perhaps spoken narration for visually impaired viewers ("a Void Burrower attacks"), but it's a very literal way to refer to the Champion, and strikes me as strange-sounding.

I'm reminded of Orianna being changed from "The Clockwork Girl" to "The Lady of Clockwork" due to some alleged IP concern. (I think?) I thought that was a weak change. (As one friend observed to me, even "The Lady Clockwork" would have a better sound to it.)

I recall reading that there are two main schools of thought in Riot about Champion titles: some think they should be sort of poetic and abstract, while others thing they should be very literal. The example given was Skarner, as "the Crystal Vanguard"; one Rioter said that if it had been up to them, he'd be called "the Crystal Scorpion".

Personally, I prefer the more descriptive titles, as I think you do as well. For instance, I think it's cooler to have Garen known as "the Might of Demacia" than "the Demacian Warrior" or "the Armored Knight" or something.

I thought Gragas was Scourge of the Dessert. Gragas

I think they just wanted to emphasize that she's "Voidborn", since she lives in Shurima and her lore indicates that she's been there for a long time and doesn't really explain anything about her being from the Void, and in all honesty the Void could have been left out entirely and she would still work as a desert burrowing monster. Void Burrower just sounds lame and not really thought out.

Scourge of the Desert, the Terror Beneath, the Monster of the Sands, the Shark of the Sands, the Void Below, Queen of the Xer'Sai, Queen of the Desert Sands...

I could go on...

Well Riot is a shitty company, so let's not get our hopes up.

I thought it was "Queen of the Xer'Sai"? Huh. Guess I haven't really looked at her in game yet.

Scourge of the Desert is just as bad, it's a cliched and overused title for every desert based bandit ever. In fact isn't there a Desert Scourge Sivir skin?

Nonetheless the Void Burrower sounds really weird, especially if you are unfamiliar with the games lore concerning the void. Actually it still sounds pretty weird even if you know the lore... there is really no salvaging that title.

I'm still partial to "The terror beneath".

YES I've made a thread like this already, but I'm glad to see someone else of the same mind. ^^ Scourge of the Desert's way better than what I came up with.

Would you mind if I borrowed it for my thread? Try to spread the word a bit more?
