HUD champion portrait using skin splash is great! - Another idea here
TL;DR can we have the same done to our champion selection?
> Your champion’s portrait in the HUD now uses your skin’s splash! (This is the big circle to the left of your abilities. Kill callouts, the minimap, etc. will still use base splashes for immediate recognizability.) > > Things affected: > EVERY > SINGLE > SKIN
So, I was looking through the portraits, and in general, I like them. I agree Infernal Nasus' portrait is a little humorous if not ridiculous looking, and Blackfrost Anivia's portrait could be zoomed out just a tiny bit...but other than that, I think the portraits are great for the champ skins that I own.
Ace of Spades Ezreal is an exception since his splash art makes his hair look totally different from his in game model, but that's the splash art's fault. In the splash art, his hair is parted to the sides and is combed down whereas on the game model his hair is gelled backwards without a parting. I actually prefer the way his hair looks in the model and it's the only reason I use the model over the default skin since the default skin has better looking clothes IMHO.
I noticed other minor things like Asylum Shaco has different teeth in the portrait, not sure why but they actually look better than in his splash.
So, what was the point of all this? Well, I was looking at some of the champion selection icons and at the icons in the champion collection page...and I'm thinking to myself, how nice it would be if the champions looked like how I'm used to seeing them when I play them. Green-haired Soraka, Sona with earrings, Garen not wearing blue, Kha'Zix with blue eyes, and so on.
I can see how some players wouldn't care since they use multiple skins per champion. But I only use one skin per champion, so the icons would need only the information of what skin I last selected for the champion. The game already records this since it doesn't reset to default between matches. I feel like when it comes to picking and banning, the slightly more distinctive skins that I chose for the champions would help them stand out a bit more, if not favorites, then at the least as champions that I am familiar with and therefore wouldn't want to bother banning. Actually, the main reason I'm asking for this feature is to make the banning process smoother since I have a hard time sorting through all the possibilities of what to ban as it is.
