Malzahar, Lovecraft, and the Void

As one not at all familiar with Cthulhu lore, I admire (from a distance) the influences of Lovecraft in different media. As a Malzahar main, it's pretty easy to see the influences behind him (he is based off of Abdul Alhazred, a Cthulic prophet who's mythos are pretty much identical to Malzahar's). This is obvious, but I wonder what other champions have equivalents in the mythos of Cthulhu. If you guys have any input, I'd love to hear it. Also, do you guys think Vel'koz is meant to be League's version of Cthulhu himself? Thanks, Teslablade

I'm of the weird opinion that the Void isn't inherently evil. It's more of just portals opening up in Valoran to deposit whatever being is closest. The question is whether or not these portals are directly related to the Rune War magical backlash, or they are a new sort of 'weapon' in testing by one of the nations (or a new party that we do not know of).

I think Fiddlesticks is also kinda lovercraftian,being the harbinger of doom,yet we know nearly nothing about him(especially since his old lore isn't canon anymore) and we also don't know what kind of doom we are talking about.

I mean if fiddle is the harbinger of said doom,then that means that something else will follow him,something that is even worse is coming....

I can agree that Void is a bit influenced by Lovercraft. But it is not entirely so. You see the void is really strange as it is composed of so many things mashed together.

In the void and its champions i easily see Cthulhu mithos, i see representations of sins and hell itself, i see some science fiction.

Also, i do not think that Vel'Koz is meant to be simmilar to Cthulhu. THey are different in their "goals" so to say an have completely different abilities.

The closest thing we have to a real Cthulhu is Nocturne because of how is he related to dreams and nightmares just like Cthulhu.

Bilgewater event has said something about a Temple for a Cthulhu like creature. Maybe its linked in someway, I dunno, The Voidlings are pretty much all around.

PS:That Tesla name deserves an upvote.

Eh, not really. Great Old Ones, by their definition, are beings that humans cannot comprehend. Their very existance is something that causes madness, and their thoughts would be as above ours as ours are above ants. On the other hand, we perfectly understand Vel'koz. We know his motivations and his desires.

Amusingly enough, the best example is Bard. He is a champion that actually doesn't care about humans. From a lore perspective, people don't know who he is or why he does what he does. He just shows up, does his thing, and leaves.
