TL;DR: Why we Varus fans are against the new Lore

I will keep this short as it boils down to 2 points and 2 points only:

  1. Riot erased the motive and original backstory of Varus, making him no longer identifiable with if you have been a fan of him. His story revolved around his DUTY and the LOSS OF HIS WIFE AND CHILD, none of the aforementioned is found in the new Lore. His CORE IDENTITY got thrown in a trash bin somewhere. That injures us fans. (New lore - no loss, just fusion into an immortal being of 3)

  2. They could have picked literaly ANY other champion that didnt have THE LOSS OF HIS WIFE AND CHILD as a CORE ASPECT to his tragic story and driving force, and make his origin story one of gay love. That just adds insult to injury, erasing the patriarchal fatherly figure AND substituting it with a polar oposite.

THAT is why we are so pissed.

Did the gender of those Varus love matter that much?

Yes Kai and Valmar being in a homosexual relationship was forced. But the gender of who Varus loved isn't the problem with his new lore.

His wife and child are not Varuses core character aspects, the core is loss in general. And given how much his lost family was fleshed out in the old lore (that be it not at all), it shows clearly that wife and child are not core aspects of his character, rather the loss of something important, being his kin or someone important, which leands itself to be changed in anyway. The core is not the paintjob, the core is the base of the building and the walls holding it together, and to be honest a lot of people are just focusing on the paintjob as if its the most important thing.

The fact that his Wife and Child are often addressed as just his wife and Child leads me to believe that what they were doesn’t matter, but their role in the story. It was never critical that they were a wife and Child, but just someone Varus loved.

To add your 1),if you remember Valmar 's conversation with the Priestess, the choosing between duty and loved ones, tho it's nothing compared to his older one.

A good thought provoking post. Also true.

I feel that the only real way to remedy this situation without fully reverting would be to make is in-game dialogue more consistent with the new background as is with Evelynn's case.

I motion to push for that.
