Something strangely coincidental about when they released Varus re-write

I humbly ask you to read this through, you will get why when you finish.

So I was thinking, it is a rather convenient time to push out the Varus change. I mean it's only the world's longest holidays comming up - perfect time to take a looong break and wait for the storm to blow over...

This combined with the fact that none of the people who worked on the new Varus have graced us with answering the concrete critics (apart from DinoPawz vague responces - "not every story is to everyone's taste" and "we make all our choices with careful consideration") you can only get the reply that they are sorry if they let you down and hope they won't in the future. That is simply implying they don't really intend to take any action regarding any critics, not even reasonable ones, and telling the affected (a.k.a. us) - we push it in, you take it as is, we don't give a damn what you think, but we constantly say we do. For all their talk of "carefull consideration" and "long discussions about the changes" they sure didn't please a lot of people with the change, nor have they stated what made them think this was a good idea in the first place.

If there were such long careful discussions it won't be hard to just name the main topics and reasons why they decided to go with this drastic change (apart from the already repeated 200 times "it will allow us to tell new stories" - no shit, wipe the board clean and tell any story you want).

Stating the obvious seems somewhat of a forte in Riot responces, if one can even be found on a critical post. That not everyone will like one story is neither constructive nor any news, hence is a means of complete deflection and talking without actually saying anything.

Think about it, if it is true that they carefully thought about this and "nothing we release is ever just one person's interpretation", then they knew fully well of the shitstorm that is to follow. Hence they chose a convenient time (winter holidays) for hiding out untill the lashback dies down and no one has the time to deal with this bullshit anymore because they have to get back to jobs, school and life in general.

Now if it is however the case, that they don't want to disclose what has been so greatly discussed, because the motivations behind the change in Varus lore were not as innocently lore-development driven, as they claim, that opens a whole other path of discussion.

To all that think this doesn't concern them, i urge you to think about this - what if your favorite champion was suddenly deleted, because this will keep happening to champions if the community shows that it will simply bend over and take whatever they shove our way.

P.S.: I love the art, but pretty pictures alone won't fix this... (for all the people that would go off and on about how the artwork is great and youtube had great responces - that's not even in the topic being adressed i am not talking about animation)

Just some food for thought. Thank you for reading.

Not wanting to change what they believe to be a finished product is very different from not caring what we think. They care, and every time there is a backlash it does hurt the people who put their time in to make what people are complaining about.

I think about this often since Kayle and Morgana are high tier on VGUs. They are going to wash away differing views the sisters have and make Kayle pure good and Morgana pure evil like a Disney cartoon. Likely give Morgana shitty demon looking attributes like leathery wings and horns. Likely remove her reasonable personality while Kayle has a stuck up attitude and heh her bakeries in runeterra, which will piss me off extremely.

As I said before I wasn't a varus fanatic, but I always liked the cliche lost everything time to end those that did this story which varus originally filled. So I did enjoy his backstory. Now he is just a kayn knock off party for 3.

I really wish they keep stronger ties to champions origins. Call me entitled or looking at it with rose colored glasses but I enjoyed them since the beginning of league so to see a chunk of the character deleted sucks.

I wouldn't read too much into that.

They updated a whole bunch of lores,Varus was just one of the many and got special attention because his new lore was such a big change.

If they just want to remain silent and let the uproar die down, then they would have done so regardless if there are holidays or not.

They always release stuff right before the break. They work on stuff right before the break and know that if they want to get it out they have to release it now since they obviously can't if they're on break, and they hate sitting on stuff that can be released but isn't.

This isn't even the first time they've released something with a massively negative reaction right before break, and that usually leads to that negative reaction festering, getting worse, and often expanding into complaints about Riot's general ability to listen to players. With how bad that's been in the past, I don't think Riot would intentionally release something controversial into that same kind of environment.

In short, I think Riot were just legitimately stupid about the Varus change and didn't think it through, no 4-D chess plan involved.

My favorite champion was the first to be butchered. Sion. But i mean, Varus was a one dimensional character. Now he's unique and interesting.

I personally don't find much issue with the new lore, they took a lot of the major elements of his old story, just framed them in a new, different, and rather weird way.

I do think they could have communicated with us better, like maybe release a statement or something beforehand giving us a general direction for the new lore before the actual release, maybe taking a bit to gather people's opinions over the holidays then making absolutely sure that it would make people happy.
