Why new Varus lore has no Loss in it (explained for children)

Because i keep seeing the argument "there still is loss and tragedy in the new lore so nothing of core value has been lost" i made this thread.

To all those who keep going on about how new Varus lore has loss in it, is just the same and ow so great, and no value has been lost since the old persona, I have this to say:

Am I the only person not blind enought to fail reading: "We walk together as one untill we can be renewed to live and love again." For all the new lore supporters you SURE AS HELL DIDN'T READ THE DAMN COMICS CAREFULLY! They lost practically nothing, an immortal being waiting to be renewed (a.k.a. separated and restored) - in the face of immortality time is of little meaning.

And that some people think it is just as tragic as the old lore and gives practically the same identity...

Honestly, the new lore feels very weak in comparison to the old one. Old one had a tragic, almost traumatic charm going on. You could identify with this man bound by duty who lost all his family for that and is now alive only through his desire of avenging his loved ones.

But new one ? In comparison to old Varus, Kai and Val are perfectly fine to me. They are sure trapped, but they aren't really dead now AND they are still together. Even worse, they are even going to fight the Darkin by...the power of love. If anything, its cliche at best. And Darkin Varus might have lost his kind, but it was after he himself tortured and killed about a hundred innocent humans, who then reacted by pure self defense. If anything, the extinction of the darkin race was almost deserved, in a way.

The new lore lost all the relatable and tragic aspect that the old one had. Sure new one feel better written (overall, it just seems more flashy in a way) but it really doesn't match the level of tragic old one had. And that tragic part was all the charm that made Varus the character he was, and why he was liked.

If they wanted to preserve the relationship between the two and add tragedy, at least one person (maybe Val's mother) should have died.

The new lore does have loss in it. Varus, the darkin, still lost almost everyone as his species has been driven to near extinction. The problem is that he is just a side character in his own lore and that he doesn't have any sympathetic side,so it really doesn't feel impactful.

Point is that they are done for good, even if they managed to beat the darkin Kayn style, they are still fused, and it seems what's keeping Kai's soul is mostly Varus, as it was a pact with the darkin for his soul.

That doesn't mean they can't try to have some hope for the future, and think that there is a chance (spoiler: there isn't any chances of them returning to normal), instead of going full old Varus:

Varus : "I'm gonna die soon you know?" "I'm sooooo dead" "I'm on borrowed time" "I kill things until I die eaten alive by my pants"

And that's why they say that, because they will try to get cured, instead of just waiting and being overcome by sadness

I mean, they haven't lost anything... yet? I think? but they run the risk of actually loosing their humanity and pretty much everything if they let the darkin take full control

I do agree the story is a struggle of control instead of loss but hey, if you want a loss centric character, you got Lucian :S

Why can't he lose in progress of his lore? Why does any of them need to lose someone now? I think Valmar or Kai, one of them can die in the future. They can use this tragedy as a surprise, rather than killing now.

He lost the ability to return to his village. He almost lost the love of his life, had he not been desperate enough to go to the pit.

Also, that statement is pretty vague. If you're using that as a guaranteed plot point, it's kind of a weak claim. That is what they hope will happen, to be able to live with each other without the nosy neighbor. It could be just as possible that they could overcome Varus, but not be separated.

Both have loss as a major theme in it, but let me explain.

Old lore: making a deal with the devil to avenge a loss. New lore: making a deal with the devil to prevent a loss.

Losing your loved one is still the leading motivation for his action, it's just that he uses the dark being to prevent the loss altogether instead of avenging it.

Which makes a more likable character in my opinion. Old Varus lost everything, he was just a walking corpse out to kill people who aren't even responsible for his loss. There are innocent Noxians, but he kills all Noxians regardless.

Varus in his old lore had no way to develop. I wanted him to die in the lore, I really wanted. His life and search for vengeance was pointless, he was just extending his suffering.

New Varus has hope, he has perspective. The tragic loss is prevented, now the couple has to face the consequences and maybe they will be able to defeat the darkin and keep living as a couple afterwards. Or maybe Varus meets his sister, strengthening himself with that and defeats the couple in the end.

There are options. And I prefer it that way than having the story of a nihilistic dude just killing innocent people for his idea of vengeance.
