Hi I have a question about rengar and more specifically what he is? I remember some rioter saying Nami is part of a race of mermaids called the marai(?) Nut is rengar a part of some race of giant cat people? Is rengar an urban legend? Is he a human hunter transformed into a jungle cat by the magic of the kumungu or maybe a lion transformed? WHAT IS RENGAR?

We don't know what he is as Rengar was adopted by a human who found him lying in the jungle,so even Rengar and his dad don't know where he came from.
Though it is worth mentioning that Iverns lore mentions a group of half-human-half-animal guys living in Ionia,so maybe he is related to them?
There's a number of animal humanoids around Runeterra with no known peers of the same species.
I think it's safe to assume that they're isolated cases. Rengar, for example, might be a jungle lion that was mutated by latent energy from the Rune Wars when he was a cub, and taken in by the human hunter mentioned in his backstory.
I'd much rather Rengar be a member of a species. This is a fantasy world; we already have yordles, merpeople, and even trolls (though no one's cared about Trundle's lore in over 5 years), why NOT have different anthropomorphic species? I'd love to see Alistar, Rengar, and Fizz all be members of different species. This would give some potential story threads of how they interact with the human nations, or how their cultures and stuff are different.
It would feel really wrong and weird to me if all of these guys were suddenly mutated humans of some kind. Don't be afraid to make the world bigger, guys
